phlogiston1 Posted October 28, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) G'day, I haven't seen any news re the V-Lux-1 lately. Does anyone have one yet? When can we expect to see some reports from users. I have read that leica will implement different NR to that from Fuji; any comments how much difference this will make? If no one has seen it yet I guess this will have to wait. thanks.

Andrej Kolev Posted October 28, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2006 Robin, I dont think that fuji will share with another firm it's NR. For the Leica a main target I think would be a changing of NR in chroma channles to less aggresive and more edge preserving than in panny version. More better would be a changing a sensor to a 6 megapixel one - like on fuji S6500. One question - have you looked in FZ viewfinder - I've seen it on the old FZ-20 and found it too small, almost unusable, comparing with fuji and especially kodak EVF's. Mybe panny changed them in recent models.
phlogiston1 Posted October 28, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted October 28, 2006 Yes, silly me I did mean Panasonic. Its just an idea for a back-up camera and the long 400mm reach could be handy. I'll wait 'till I hear more. My main body is in hospital getting some warranty work and I hate working with only one body. I get nervous. We get spoilt. Is the viewfinder better than an R4 with an original screen and slow lens or even an old Hasselblad with an old 250mm lens?? I'm sure it will be useable and better than an EVF?? Andrej Kolev Posted October 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2006 Robin, I've never used R4 and Hasselblad, but of cource viewfinders of medium format cameras are better than EVFs. The only one point is that EVFs are always bright, even in low-light. My thougts about V-lux/Panny FZ-50 - good sharp lens , with low CA, but sensor will produce bad overprocessed image in JPEG/ too noisy RAW. Stabilizer will help keep ISO down, but not always. Maybe Leica will change image processing, but I'm afraid changes will be minimal. Small size/resolution EVF will make manual focusing almost useless (the only good high-resolution EVFs was on old minolta models) For me is some aspects more optimally designed camera is a Fuji S6500 - good 6 mp sensor with acceptable noise levels and lens starting from wide angle and it is AA battery powered, but it has problems too - lens has a tendency to show CA, and aperture is not so good as on previous models, f/4.9 on long end (f/3.1 on previous models), small resolution/medium size EVF, S9000 has similar specs but better EVF and 9Mp (but more noisy). P.S. From my point of view the best camera with EVF at this time is a SONY R1, it is far superior comparing to Fuji/Leica-Panny models.
