peepete77 Posted March 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear fellow Leica lovers! I am new here, this is my first thread. I have just purchased a D-lux 4, and I am very happy with it, it is a beauty. I have a few questions I would be MOST grateful if someone would provide an answer to my worries and wonderings. I have google'd a lot, without finding a clear answer. 1. I know there excists a Wide angel converter (from 24 to 18mm), with a fitting adapter to the Panasonic LX3. Will these two Panasonic accessories fit and be usable with my D-lux4? I know there exists a ND-filter too, from Panasonic, for the LX3. I take it, that if the adapter works on D-lux4, it will take this filter too. I don't know how good it is, compared to other filter manufactorers, though... 2. Will it be possible to find an Expodisc white balance filter, fitting the D-lux4, and if so, does anyone know how I should use it, and if it really is needed, on the Leica? This is a great forum, I have read some threads already, and this is clearly a pool of Leica wisdom, beauty and creativity! Thanks, and kind regards from a humble beginner in the exiting world of photo! Per Norway

ho_co Posted March 21, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2009 Per-- Welcome to the forum! You've made a good choice in camera as well. In regard to the Panasonic wide-angle lens and lens adapter, they both work fine on the D-Lux 4. The WA adds some distortion and chromatic aberration, but they can be pretty well eliminated with your image-processing software. The adapter takes 46 mm size accessories. I don't think that's a common size, so the Panasonic filters may be easier to get than others. As for the ExpoDisc, I'm sure you could get one if you want; you might need to get a larger ExpoDisc if it isn't available in 46 mm, and a step-up ring from filter adapter to the ExpoDisc. I've never seen the need for one, but a lot of people swear by them. To me the main use of the D-Lux 4 is in being a carry-along, ready-to shoot camera, and I'm not that interested in carrying too much extra time-consuming paraphernalia. (Of course, that doesn't explain why I got the wide-angle conversion lens, does it? ) Use the forum's search function to find some threads on the camera. Search on the user name "macgarvin" for some early processing comparisons. I also started a couple threads on aspects of the camera and its processing; one of them has to do specifically with the WA adapter: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/76883-d-lux-4-wa-conversion-lens.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/76810-d-lux-4-conversions.html PS--FWIW, the photographer who shot the image at http://www.newsweek.com/id/186955 is a forum member and mentioned here that he made that picture with his D-Lux 4. peepete77 Posted March 21, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted March 21, 2009 Thank you so much for this enlightening reply! I am most grateful! However, I am starting to wonder if I want this wide-angle after I saw this barrel distortion... But the adapter is a must, so I can use filter. Thanks for the advise on step-up ring, I think I will be going for a 46-52mm.... Anyways, it really was a pleasure to see and read your other threads, and as a D-lux4 owner, I was mesmerized. Again, thank you SO MUCH! Greetings from Norway Per
