Jack MacDonough Posted March 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I set a custom mode on the Dlux4 it doesn't stay set when I turn the camera off and then back on. I must be missing some step? Please advise.
Advertisement Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Hi Jack MacDonough, Take a look here Dlux4 help on custom mode setting please. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted March 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2009 Jack-- I also find that part of the camera a bit tricky. Setting instructions are on p 58 of the manual: 1) Set up the features you want on the camera; 2) Go to the "setup" menu; 3) Choose Cust Set Mem and choose which of the four memories you want (C1; or C2-1, C2-2, C2-3); 4) Press center (Menu/Set) button to set; 5) Exit Menu system by pressing center button or release button etc. Once you've done that, the settings are stored in memory. You should be able to turn the camera off without losing them. Whatever your last settings were should still be there when you turn on the camera. If you change away from your stored settings, you'll need to recall them: Recall/Use instructions are on p 59 of the manual: 1) Turn the mode dial to the custom set you want to recall (C1 or C2); 2) If you chose C1, you're finished; otherwise: 3) If you chose C2, the LCD will prompt you to choose C2-1, C2-2 or C2-3; 4) Use up/down buttons to select, then center (Menu/Set) button to exit. I find the procedure a bit fiddly, and I don't know what happens if I have the mode dial set to C1 or C2 and decide to change, say, my ISO, while leaving other parameters unaltered. And I'm not sure just what functions are 'sticky' with the Custom Modes. I've got more learning to do. This little point-n-shoot grows quite complicated when I try to set some of these things. I hope that helps; since it's firmware, I don't think it can be defective--so that means it's something you're overlooking. Let us know.
Jack MacDonough Posted March 15, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted March 15, 2009 Thanks Howard, you should write the manual. This is a great camera, but compared to an M8,it is very complicated. I have had it three weeks, shot 2,000 photos, and very pleased. I love the fast wide lens, and it's pocketability with RAW. But, one has to read the manual serveral times, and still ask help from the forum. Thanks!
ho_co Posted March 16, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2009 Jack, you're more than welcome. I'm glad I could help! Great camera, but there are a lot of things to learn and often enough, the manual just doesn't cut it.
Lumistu Posted March 16, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 16, 2009 Download the LMX-3 PDF manual. It is much better than the D-LUX 4 manual and, save for a few insignificant quirks, they are basically the same camera. I hope this helps. Jack MacDonough Posted March 16, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted March 16, 2009 Tony, do you have a link to the PDF of the LMX-3 manual? I can't find it on the Panasonic site, or through any google work I did. I could only find the warranty PDF on the Panasonic site. Thanks, Jack

regedit Posted March 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 17, 2009 Thanks ho_co! The manual was a bit blurry for me too but I followed your instruction and successfully manage to set custom modes. Impress by the settings stored. Even the beep state can be change in the custom mode. Quite custom indeed!
Jack MacDonough Posted March 18, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted March 18, 2009 Holger, thanks that link did it. For others who want to get to just the English option quickly, use this further link: Panasonic Nutzungsbedingungen Then, for English readers: Click the box "Ich stimme zu" which in English means "I agree"and then press the blue arrow that says "Ansicht", which I believe is "view" ie download to get the PDF. Alternatively, the other option, "Schliessen" means "close" and if you push that you do close the site. I, of course, find it amusing that to learn to work a Japanese Leica, one must go to the German Panasonic site. but hey, all Leica owners should know a little German anyway. Fortunately the download is in English. The Panasonic guide shows the screen shot that one needs to see when setting the custom mode, the Leica manual does not, so it is well worth downloading this guide for anyone like me who prefers figuring stuff out myself, but can't when it takes 5 screens deep in a menu to do something.
