Advertisement Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hi jimbo035, Take a look here Which screen protector ? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ravduc Posted March 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 4, 2009 GGS glass protectors on ebay are the best I have used to date. They look very good and protect the screen more than the vinyl ones. I have GGS screen protectors on my two D2's and my D3 and Canon G10. They usually cost around 10usd.
USA road racer Posted March 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2009 I have a Zagg on mine. Does really well. No complaints. It just sits there & does it's job. Never even thought of pealing off either! A glass one would be nice but then you MAY have a lip to catch on something. Never tried a glass one. What if you used both. Place the glass one on first then added the Zagg? This way the glass would have a protective coating as well. Just a thought.
doubice Posted March 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2009 specifically for a D-Lux 4 .. any recommendations regarding the best brand. ZAGG perhaps ? Having used the thin plastic protector sheets for a long time, I decided to get something more permanent. Glass protectors are available from GGS and Giottos among others but, I was apprehensive about possible breakage. In the end I settled on a polycarbonate 'acmaxx' LCD Armor - available on eBay or directly from Acmaxx. It is a 0.5mm thick, hard polycarbonate protector; I got the 2.5" version, which fits my M8, Digilux 2 and Canon G7 perfectly. For the D-Lux 4, search for the protector fitting its Panasonic equivalent. Best, Jan

The Zagg I ordered from the US came today, earlier than expected - apparently sent out from a UK agent. I'm somewhat reluctant to use it though, as it has to be sprayed on both sides with the solution that comes with it, and I'.m worried about the moisture (aided by the squeegee) seeping past the edges of the camera's LCD monitor. Any comment USA road racer ? If only I had heard about the GGS protectors beforehand........
ravduc Posted March 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted March 4, 2009 The GGS protector is totally clear and extremely well made. It has no real edges that will catch on anything. The edges are very smooth and the glass is impact, scrach, etc protected. It sticks on only at the edges and is removable, if you should want to remove it for some reason. It looks as if its part of the camera. It is much easier to install then the other ones made of clear vinyl plastic and has no visible bubbles. I have used the other clear vinyl plastic protectors and have since removed them to be replaced with the GGS protectors.
USA road racer Posted March 4, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) No worry on the moisture front! Just spray the film as directed. When done, you MAY have a SMALL bubble. It will disappear as the Zagg sets up as the instructions state. I put mine in around 2 minutes and let it set overnight as it says to in the instructions. Really happy with the product. One more thing, when you get tired of the overkill neck strap that the camera comes with (USA version), order one to fit Leica 10X25 Ultravid binoculars! It is just made of nylon webbing with a 1/2 inch neck piece woven into the 1/4 inch webbing! Those binoculars weigh more than the DLux4! Ordered one from Leica USA for a grand total of $15 USD! This way, you can easily wind the strap around the camera for storage or wrap it around your wrist to use as a wrist strap.
jimbo035 Posted March 4, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted March 4, 2009 Out of curiosity I googled "GGS protector D-Lux 4" and drew a blank, but there is one for the P'sonic LX3. Screen dimensions presumably identical.
ravduc Posted March 4, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 4, 2009 The panasonic will be the same. I purchased two for my Digulux 2's but found them under Panasonic LC1. The screens will be identical. This is one on ebay. I have purchased from this seller and have never had any problems. http://cgi.ebay.com/GGS-pro-LCD-Screen-Protector-for-Panasonic-DMC-LX3-LX-3_W0QQitemZ350135141473QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDigital_Camera_Accessories?hash=item350135141473&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

jobjob Posted March 4, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 4, 2009 What`s about an LCD hood. I use one on my "leicapix" and i`m realy happy with it. It have two magnetic stripes on cameraside. So it is very easy to take it on and off the LCD. Maybe the dealer have one in the dimensions of your camera.
