The funny thing is that I own a D2 and a D Lux 4 and I wish I would have a M8. The D2 is also a great camera.Do you know goods reviews about it? I read this one, Sen REeid in Luminous Landscape, Phil Askey in DPreview, Abndy Piper in Photonet. Thanks for the good work you accomplished for our pleasure. Now well past retirement age I cannot afford to replace it; and although the D-Lux4 stretched my budget somewhat, sufficient to say after only seven weeks I definately will never part with it. I am about to take delivery of a D-Lux 4 titanium kit, which I traded in my M6TTL 0.85 body and grip for. Hope I made the right decision - I loved that M6 but just found I was not using it anymore. I have an M8 too and use all my lenses with that. The two drawbacks of the D-Lux 4 for me are the fact it doesnt shoot DNG RAW files and the comparative lack of shallow focus at f2, leading to cluttered backgrounds and poorer bokeh. However, I am hoping it will allow me to travel everywhere with a fairly good quality camera and allow low light shooting... Many thanks again. Someday I hope that I can afford an M8.2 with a range of lenses. Makes a retired guy want to go out & find a job to feed my photography addiction! I do have a Dlux4 and a V Lux 1 that I use. The V Lux mostly for outdoor & wildlife photos due to that 420MM lense. I do have a question for you. What kind of a camera strap would you recommend for the DLux4. Not really happy with the neck strap that came with it. Was even thinking that a strap from my Leica 10X25 Ultravid binoculars would do the job. Have looked at Leicagoodies & got some ideas there. Still can't make up my mind. Just hate to have a cumbersome neck strap on such a small camera. Not sure about a wrist strap. Thanks in advance! GCHA Posted March 2, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 2, 2009 Steve, Very nice and accurate review. I like the look of your site also. I really like and enjoy my D Lux 4. Amazing quality for a P&S camera. My 10"X15" prints from it stand up well against the same size print from my Kodak DCS Pro 14n, which is no slouch in the IQ depatment. I had a blast doing it and am still having a blast shooting the Dlux 4 and M8! As for a strap, I agree on the one they include with the D-Lux 4 and I will be looking for a nice little skinny leather strap for it soon. Not sure which one yet though. sliversurger Posted March 3, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 3, 2009 great review steve! if you're looking for a strap, try looking at the artisan&artist straps Artisan & Artist* Straps i bought one for my M8 through photo village in NYC. i prefer these ones over luigi's as they're not as thick but still retain a nice classic look to them. USA road racer Posted March 4, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 4, 2009 I just tried a strap on my DLux4! Took the strap off of my Leica Ultravid 10X25 binoculars & put it on the DLux4. BINGO!!! Just what I'm looking for! The binoculars weigh MORE than the DLux4 does! The 1/4" strap goes to 1/2" behind the neck for support. So, I now have a lightweight strap to replace that stiff thing that came with the camera! Ordered a replacement from Leica for $15 USD. So, now I have a strap that will wind up nice & tight around the camera for storage or will easily wind around the wrist to use as a wrist strap. Done deal! I'm a real neophyte at photography, having briefly used a Nikon FE many years ago and, more recently, a really fine but limited C-Lux 1. I just purchased a D-Lux 4, eager to jump back into photography as I gradually approach retirement. Your truly helpful review gives me the sense that I've done the right thing with a relatively modest wallet. Maybe someday in a distant future the offspring of the M8? Thanks again.
