andalus Posted March 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I sold a lens this past year, the Summicron 28 for my MP. I wanted to slim down my gear to just a 50 Lux ASPH and the Telyt 135 APO. I needed some extra cash, too. So I sent off my 28 to Popflash to sell. Now, I'd swear this lens was very carefully used and handled since bought new. I have owned Leicas for 40 years and I always care for all gear well, abuse nothing. So Popflash gets back to me and tells me that the lens is all scratched up, as if someone too fine sandpaper to it! Said they would send it off to Germany for repair, costing maybe 900$, and then sell it. I was befuddled. They swore the lens was compromided, but I had never suspected or seen anything of the sort. But I said, well, okay. At any rate, I got a lot less for the leans a few months later than I imagined I would. Well, okay, it's not an nunresolved issue. The lens is gone and I've been paid something for it. But something smells fishy with this transaction, simply because I can hardly imagine that lens suffering any damage. It was "mint" I thought when I sent it off... I wonder if anyone has experienced anything like this? Thanks.
