MPerson Posted February 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My standard films are Adox CHS 25, 50 & 100 all at box speed. Plus-X rated 400 and Tri-X rated 1250-1600. I fancy something different to try this year and have been looking at Fomapan Classic 100. My developers are Diafine, R09 & ATM49 with Diafine being my first choice. Anyone wish to add their experience/advice with this film?
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hi MPerson, Take a look here Fomapan classic 100. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MattLain Posted February 28, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2009 I like the results I get in D-76, and it should look great in Diafine. Along with RR100 its the closest thing I've seen to APX100 (over efke, adox, maco).
fotohuis Posted March 2, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2009 Diafine, R09 "one shot" (NEW) (= Rodinal) are pretty good with the Fomapan Classic 100 film. AM74/RHS is also a good combination. Here a summary of the best combinations for this film: http://www.fotohuisrovo.nl/documentatie/Ontwikkeltijden.pdf and with Diafine (E.I. = 200) : http://www.fotohuisrovo.nl/documentatie/Diafine_Acu-1_BKA.pdf With Rodinal the N=0 development is valid for iso 80. With AM74/RHS it is iso 100. Best regards, Robert

mann61 Posted March 2, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2009 I bought 20 rolls of this film and am happy with the results. My initial concern was the lack of information over development using my choice of developer,DDX.I phoned Foma and they emailed me the timing of 8to 8.30 minutes.Brilliant.I am happy with this and the results of the film.I will continue to use it until I can get nomore. All the best David

batmobile Posted March 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) its a wonderful film with real sparkle. I develop in a mixure of Xtol 1+3 and Rodinal 1+100 and get reasonable grain and good bite. I find it delivers about 1/3 (at most 1/2) stop less speed than Fp4+ and has marginally coarser grain. however, there is something truly wonderful about this film. In my MPs I rate it at 50 in average conditions, though in flat conditions 64 is OK. In bright cutting side light with deep shadows I would rate it at 40-32 and pull development. In my Mamiya 7 I rate it 2/3 stop faster as the MP-Mamiya 7 meters differ by 2/3 stop (in fact my MPs need to rate films 2/3 stop slower than all of my cameras (Canon SLRs, RF645 etc). With the R09 you will get really nice bite. This is not a high resolution film but it has a lot of character, nice neautral clear base and dries flat in 35mm. In 120 it has a blue polyester base. The 200 is nice too. Only about 1/2 stop faster, but quite different looking. Somehow tighter grain, greater apparent resolution.

DaCh Posted March 5, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 5, 2009 Yes, I like Fomapan 100 for 135 and 120. Normaly I use Rodinal (RO9) for it, but it also works very well in Cafenol + just a small amount of ascorbic. agitate seldom and leave it for a long time to give nice tones and super fine grain. Once every five minutes for an hour is not unreasonble. Oh yes and Foampan is just about as cheap as good film gets which has to be a bounus.
