D2 with Vivitar 283 Flash

Hi-

I haven't tried this combination but have used a 283 since the mid seventies. I never tried it with my M8 but used it with an Olympus E1 for a while. You'll need a Wein or similar adapter. It fits between the flash and camera flash shoe to reduce trigger voltage, otherwise the camera's circuits may fry.

They tend to fall apart and not work particularly well after a while, sometimes not firing. I also had this problem when using the adapter with a Metz 45. They cost approx $50 and for about 90, you can get a Vivitar 285 HV which has lower trigger voltage. I just bought a Metz 54 and am very happy with it. Now after almost 35 years, the 283 in in semi-retirement.

Best,

I have a later model 283 which is lower voltage (about 12V I think) and it worked fine. Check your 283 voltage before you use it as the earlier ones had very high triggering voltage; like over 200 volts.
