MP3 Posted October 24, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi folks In view of the gradual surfacing of pictures from M8 on the internet, I post some DNG converted JPEGs (ISO160-2500) which I took during a Leica Day here. The conversion is made using C1's default M8 profile without any further post-processing. Firmware version is 1.0.5 while all lens and settings used are recorded in picture captions. Hope you enjoy them as much as I capture them. Cheers Matthew

newyorkone Posted October 24, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2006 Thanks Matthew. Fluorescent lighting does wonders for photos doesn't it
grober Posted October 24, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2006 Thanks, Matthew. I only wish that you had taken the M8 to the window and, even through the glass window, shot some pictures of your glorious harbor. -g
MP3 Posted October 24, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted October 24, 2006 Hi Steve Frankly, I would usually not expect a keeper shot under fluorescent lighting. Even in such unfavourable mixed lighting condition (daylight, fluorescent and spotlights), the M8, however, does manage to rendit the images in high color and lighting fidelity, I mean it is just what I saw in the demo testing room. albertwang Posted October 24, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2006 Not bad... I think that there seems to be a cutting and realistic depth to the colors.
MP3 Posted October 24, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted October 24, 2006 Thanks, Matthew. I only wish that you had taken the M8 to the window and, even through the glass window, shot some pictures of your glorious harbor. -g Hi grober It's my wish and request too, though the 5-grand demo M8 was chained during my testing process and they politely refuse to let it go free Best Matthew
andybarton Posted October 24, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) You should be advised that Leica are not keen on any M8 shots getting out and about until they are actually in the shops.

John Maio Posted October 25, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2006 For what its worth, Michael Reichmann (The Luminous Landscape) said on October 23, My own field review of a production M8 will appear here within the next week. (Please note that while review copies of the M8 are now being made available, the official release date for the camera is not until some time in the second half of November. Anyone wishing to purchase one would be well advised to place an order now, as this exciting new camera will likely be in a back-order situation for quite some time). I'm sure he'll have lots of pictures in his review, too - but most likely no DNGs.

Allen, thank you for your kind advice. I can understand Leica's point for fear that people making pre-mature judgements on M8 image qualities based on pre-production firmware version. Having considered on this, I choose to share the DNG C1-default-processed files rather than JPEGs here, This is produced by Leica's recommended C1 workflow and I believe further firmware updates should by definition not significantly affect the RAW image qualities.
