johnastovall Posted February 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I understand Leica offered a factory conversion of the M4 framelines to the M4-P (28-90, 50-75, 35-135). Are there techs out there doing this today?
Advertisement Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hi johnastovall, Take a look here M4-P framelines for M4?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NB23 Posted February 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2009 You mean M4-P framelines for the M4? If so, is it possible to install M4P lines in my M7? I think there is NO better M then a M4P. The viewfinder + Framelines we're the best. IMO of course.
Guest maddoc2003jp Posted February 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2009 M4-P frame lines can be installed in the M5 (cost about $500 as I have heard) so it should be possible with the M4, too.
thrid Posted February 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 26, 2009 The construction of the frameline mask varies. Some are etched glass sandwiched between metal, while others are all metal. Therefore they are not all interchangeable. In the case of the M4-P it gets more complicated. The majority of them appear to have framelines that indicate coverage at 1 meter, but the last few batches with the M6 style top plate seem to use the finder and mask from the M6. This mask shows coverage at .7 meters, instead of 1 meter, and frames less accurate at normal working distances (3m - infinity). I hate to say it, but the M4 has one of the best rangefinder units of any Leica out there. Framing accuracy and flare resistane are excellent. It would be a real shame to modify the camera. it's also not cheap to do, unless they really can just swap the mask (which I doubt can be done). Swapping the whole RF unit is very expensive. The M4-P is relatively cheap these days and you could probably pick one up for a good price...
