miami91 Posted February 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2009 and how do you choose this size from a heavy RAW file (D Lux 4 or Digilux 2) Thanks for reading and answering Jean-Luc Jean-Luc, If you click the paper clip icon in this forum's message toolbar, you get a little window which is used to browse and select the image for upload. In this window, there are guidelines for the size and dimensions of images that the forum will allow. For JPEG, GIF, and PNG, the max filesize is 244.1KB, and max pixel dimensions are 960x960. There are many ways to choose this size. I would typically use Photoshops "save for the web" feature, put 960 in either the vertical or horizontal dimension as the maximum dimension, then adjust the quality slider till I'm at or below 244K. Other photo programs (Aperture, LR, etc.) likely have a similar feature. Best, Jeff.
JLV Posted February 24, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted February 24, 2009 I will look at this function in PS Elements 4 or C1. This means that you save a low quality JPEG from RAW. I presume that you can repeat the operation with a high resolution file if you want to print it. C1 doesn't have a print mode ( I feel that strange to need to outsource the pic to another soft to be able to print it.) Thank you very much . Best regards, Jean-Luc

Best regards, Jean-Luc Exactly right --- you are saving a low-resolution JPEG. Printing is a whole other discussion. You're absolutely correct ---- you want to use your high resolution file for printing purposes. Some people print straight from their photo software (Capture One, Photoshop, Aperture, Light Room) with good results. Others use very specialized RIPs (Raster Image Processors) with dedicated paper and ink profiles for the ultimate control. You may want to search the forum for previous discussions on approaches to printing, or start a new discussion with a very explicit title to get some feedback on other people's approaches to printing. JLV Posted February 25, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted February 25, 2009 Jeff, Thank you for your answer. Is it possible to print directly a RAW file or non compressed TIFF straight from Capture 1 without transfering the file to PS or another image processor? I printed the 77 pages of C1 user guide that I received with my D Lux 4 and found nothing about printing. Thank you any advice. Jean-Luc

I've only used Capture 1 in a very limited fashion --- installed it when I got my D-Lux 4 so I could process the RAW files. Ordinarily, I use Aperture for most everything, and for printing I use a RIP (Colorbyte ImagePrint). Jeff.
