johnastovall Posted October 23, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know that model battery the M8 is going to take? The manual doesn't give a model number. I hope we will be able to get 3rd party batteries and chargers. I would not want to ever go out with out at least 2 spares and two chargers. geoff Posted October 23, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2006 Does anyone know that model battery the M8 is going to take? The manual doesn't give a model number. I hope we will be able to get 3rd party batteries and chargers. I would not want to ever go out with out at least 2 spares and two chargers. The Leicia M8 battery is model 14464. I would stick with the Leica brand unless I knew the exact OEM. There are a lot of poorly designed third party batteries which usually appear to work but can put a strain on the electronics over the long haul due to improper voltage and other issues. Why buy an expensive camera and risk damage and voiding the warranty with cheap batteries?
wparsonsgisnet Posted October 24, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2006 I have the D2 and when I needed a second battery, I bot the Panasonic battery for their version of the camera. It works just fine. As there won't be a source for the M8 battery from a less expensive -- but dependable -- source, I have already asked my dealer to get me a second battery. I agree with Geoff. I wasn't going to risk an $1,800 camera by buying anybody's battery for it. I'm not going to do it with the M8, either. How much can the battery be? I expect less then $200.
