Guest WPalank Posted March 5, 2009 Share #81 Posted March 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well I for one appreciate the time Team Leica gave us this morning and found the meeting very informative. Since I do not have any experience with medium format systems I didn't have a lot to ask. But as a street/field shooter I did ask Mr. Stefan Schulz about durability/weather-ability. I believe he did state that the camera and lenses were sealed for use in heavy rain (although I wouldn't want to be the one to test the claim). Mr. Schulz holding the S2: Welcome, dear visitor! bradleygibson Posted March 6, 2009 Share #83 Posted March 6, 2009 Now I'm not entirely sure what was going on at the Leica booth , but I am sorry I wasn't able to make it to Vegas--both to see the camera and to meet some of you and put faces to names. Thanks, David for putting this meeting together, and for reporting back what you're learning--reading the reports is almost like being there (but without the latex, though...) Take care, -Brad
stevelap Posted March 6, 2009 Share #84 Posted March 6, 2009 David, in your blog you answered a question concerning EyeFi cards but did the Leica people mention anything about their own WiFi solution, or has this faded away? It was mentioned at the time of the photokina launch, iirc it was intended to slip into the left-hand strap lug socket. I've asked Guy this question too, don't know if it was discussed at all. Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 6, 2009 Share #85 Posted March 6, 2009 Steve that is a future feature that will be coming. On the left or right lug that will come out and you can replace that with a Wi-Fi antenna to send images to a computer. When , how and how much are all to be answered at some point. But it is in the plans and maybe David can expand on it when he gets home and settled in. Pretty cool if it works they way we think it might ,certainly I would not tryto be sending Raw DNG's through it but jpegs would be the answer and this will shoot a jpeg to either card or the same card so with CF and SD cards you will have some options like DNG to CF and Jpegs to SD cards. Nice way to back you up too

Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 7, 2009 Share #91 Posted March 7, 2009 Guy, You misunderstand. Pete isn't being a jerk. He calls you his friend, and signs off with "Cheers." It must be some Brit thing, friendly, polite folk appearing to be assholes. Steve Thanks Steve . I am way to beat up at the moment to fully understand what he actually meant. Just drove 5 hours with little sleep. So if I was wrong than sorry if I was right than I don't care. I try to help people and if I am going to be insulted taking my time away from my family and my business for no monetary value than it really makes me mad to be insulted. I am not a writer and I write as I was thinking on a laptop that kept shutting down and losing posts because of a dead battery which just cost me 140 dollars to replace. I just can't type on a laptop keyboard for the life of me.

Relax Andy, These girls just happened to be walking near the Leica booth for some other sort of promotion when Leica USA president Roger Horn and myself noticed at about the same time that the red in their outfits was about the same hue as the Leica red in the booth. I asked them if they wouldn't mind posing for a few seconds and they graciously complied. Then they were quickly off on their merry way.

magd0328 Posted March 13, 2009 Share #98 Posted March 13, 2009 I was rather skeptical when Leica announced the S2. I thought they would struggle to compete with Hasselblad on the one side and the top end Nikons and Canons on the other side. However, having read the Farkas blog (it's a great blog - thank you) it looks like the S2 will be one of the finest camera systems ever produced. I still don't think it will be within my budget - they need to market this to rental houses big time for it to be successful. I'm also impressed by Leica at the moment - new 18, 21, 24x2 and 50mm lenses, a new flash - they are on a roll! And they are developing the S2 at the same time. It's a great achievement, for sure. Has there ever been a period in Leica's history when they introduced some many new products in such a short space of time?
