Advertisement Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Hi dfarkas, Take a look here S2 Demo at PMA. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 24, 2009 Share #22 Posted February 24, 2009 Me too David also reminder if you need a voucher contact either one of us and also bring your confirming e-mail from PMA and print that out so you can scan the bar code at the machines at registration. BTW I faxed my voucher in and that worked fine.
BJNY Posted February 26, 2009 Share #23 Posted February 26, 2009 Hi David, Wish I could attend, but I handled a working S2 back in October at Photo Plus Expo, NY. The vertical grip, however, was a wooden mock-up. Aside from finding out about pricing, availability, warranty & pro services would you ask/confirm: - if there will be 4:5 crop mode and corresponding masking in the viewfinder - if there will be AF micro-adjustment - if there is live video when tethered - how they will keep cool the sensor capable of 1.5fps - if Leica has a contingency should Kodak exit the sensor business I'd like to know the same about the R10, which is just as interesting being full frame 35mm CCD, no AA & 16-bit. Thank you in advance, David. Always enjoy your reports, Billy
albertknappmd Posted February 26, 2009 Share #24 Posted February 26, 2009 Please get as many details as possible about the R10... Waiting a long long time for that one! Albert:)
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 26, 2009 Share #25 Posted February 26, 2009 Albert you have a extra pair of pliers . I may need to pull some real teeth for that answer. LOL Certainly will ask for sure.
BJNY Posted February 26, 2009 Share #26 Posted February 26, 2009 I just noticed at LEICA Camera AG - Aktuell that the 3" LCD now has a resolution of 460,000. Wasn't the earlier spec at 920,000 matching the Canon, Nikon & Sinar (eSprit65)?

wildlightphoto Posted February 27, 2009 Share #28 Posted February 27, 2009 ... - if there will be AF micro-adjustment I would hope that this user QC fix of a Rube Goldberg function would be unnecessary.

lxlim Posted February 27, 2009 Share #30 Posted February 27, 2009 I would hope that this user QC fix of a Rube Goldberg function would be unnecessary. I agree there. micro-adjustment means inadequate level QC or the build quality was not sufficient for professional use. All things go out of wack eventually but it should not be an out of box experience or something you need to do every couple of months.
Guest WPalank Posted February 28, 2009 Share #31 Posted February 28, 2009 If anyone is interested in getting a hands-on group demo of the S2 at PMA in Las Vegas, I have set up a time with Christian Erhardt from Leica Camera USA. He will make sure that we can get a private audience with several key S2 team members including the product manager. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 5th at 10:30 AM. David, Thanks for sending me the registration PDF. I'm all set (hotel, flight PMA Trade show registration). Could you please reconfirm the time as the day gets closer. Also, please keep me in mind if there will be any Leica meet and greets on or around Thursday.

BJNY Posted February 28, 2009 Share #33 Posted February 28, 2009 Another, VERY important: - can one of the buttons be programmed for AF ? just as Canon now has a dedicated AF-ON button. Also, will an Eye-Fi SD card work in the S2 ? to transmit the JPEGs while DNGs get written to the CF card. Hi David, Wish I could attend, but I handled a working S2 back in October at Photo Plus Expo, NY. The vertical grip, however, was a wooden mock-up. georg Posted March 1, 2009 Share #34 Posted March 1, 2009 As far as I remember it, at least one button (surrounding the display) is programmable (e.g for AF). WLAN with Eye-Fi? I'm not sure, but they will come up with a WLAN-module!
BJNY Posted March 1, 2009 Share #35 Posted March 1, 2009 Yes, I forgot about the WLAN module, but who knows when it will materialize. Thank you, Georg. Any of the buttons surrounding the display is too far away for AF-ON and doesn't fall at the thumb like Canon's or Hasselblad's.
thrid Posted March 1, 2009 Share #36 Posted March 1, 2009 Can you ask them why the S2 doesn't have separate AF-lock and and AE-lock buttons like every other automated camera on the market? I appears that AE-lock, AF-lock and releasing the shutter are all controlled by the shutter release. Unless you are taking a single shot, that is a very awkward setup. Most of the time you can probably get away with this setup in a studio, but anything involving changing light and movement could become very tricky. I'm guess you would end up setting exposure manually, so all you're controlling from the shutter release is focus and taking the shot. Maybe you can assign AE and AF lock to two of the large menu buttons...
mooky Posted March 4, 2009 Share #37 Posted March 4, 2009 Wish I was going.....Can't wait to 'hear all about it!',,,,,,,,,Have a good time, ask tons of questions and.............take tons of pictures!!!!!!!
carstenw Posted March 4, 2009 Share #38 Posted March 4, 2009 David Farkas' first blog entry from PMA is online: David Farkas Photography Blog One of the changes Leica has made is to add a right-thumb autofocus button! Yay!
stevelap Posted March 4, 2009 Share #39 Posted March 4, 2009 Yes, some interesting stuff there already. Eg, CS lenses will also be available without the leaf shutter. Thanks David, keep up the good work.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 4, 2009 Share #40 Posted March 4, 2009 David nice job see you tomorrow .My only real nit picker( at the moment, need to think more about it)) is only 3 lenses on opening day to the public. They can't start a new system without a wide angle on opening day. This puts any Pro out of business until all these lenses are out and ready to purchase. Leica needs to do better than this. Get in there ear before I show up.
