SteveYork Posted February 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm putting together ann SLR package for a bird and bees trip this fall. I got a 80-200/4 at a very tasty deal, and now I'm considering what second lens. A 35-70/4? But I'm thinking this zoom doesn't save me any weight at all, because I would only have one prime in that range anyway. A 35/2? Versatile, but I would probably take a rangefinder with a 35/2 as backup and for people. Maybe not though, because weight's always an issue for me (bad back). Or maybe a 50/2. Not as versatile as a 35/2, but 50 Summicrons are dandy little lenses. And I would have to have something wider on the trip, so I probably will take the rangefinder. Any input would be helpful. PS -- Yes, I shoot film, and I don't like electronic gizmos, because I had a camera fail on me, completely dead, in the mid-90's. When those electronics go, you're just hauling around a big old rock. stunsworth Posted February 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2009 50mm Summicron it is. Cheap and extremely high quality, I used one on a Canon 5D. What camera are you thinking of taking?
SteveYork Posted February 15, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted February 15, 2009 Based on my experience with electronics, something mechanical. And because I'm happy with the Leica optics with my rangefinder experience, something like an R6 or R6.2. I know the Rs get a bad rap, but I don't like the viewfinder on the mechanical Nikons of recent past. And the shutter report of an F2 would probably scare everyone else on the trip. "Is that gunfire we hear?" Of course, an F2 would double as a hammer. Plus, talking about a heavy camera!!!!!
