etp095 Posted February 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2009 Hello, I am planning on buying a D-Lux 4 from Harrison Cameras Online but I have some concerns regarding the warranty, shipping to US, etc. Any thoughts regarding this? Is there anything I would have to consider as a US buyer? Thanks. first thing is your going to lose the passport part of the warranty in the usa, leica usa won't honor this part of the warranty.they(leica usa) will still honor the regular part of the warranty,it's an international warranty in case of a defect in workmanship, etc.the shipping part is gonna be at least $100 bucks or so,it's not really worth it if all your going to buy is a digilux 4 camera.the camera is 529 pounds at harrisons,so your price without shipping is $639 bucks @today's exchange rate.then your credit card company will charge you a 2-3% foreign transaction fee and now you have the shipping charge to add.if you add it all up your gonna save about $30 bucks buying from a uk dealer after all is said and done.you could buy the camera in the usa for $699 now and the case will cost you about $80 bucks, and your gonna get free shipping.the only thing your gonna need to get is a memeory card.for you it's not worth it unless your buying some leica glass, that's where the real savings are at the moment. nostalg1a Posted February 12, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks but what do you mean by Passport warranty?
miami91 Posted February 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks but what do you mean by Passport warranty? I'm not sure that's the correct term. Passport warranties are extended warranties that Leica gives on their really expensive items (M and R cameras and lenses, spotting scopes) that not only provide coverage in case of product failure, but also cover repair/replacement if you do accidental damage. The D-Lux 4 doesn't have this type of warranty. However, the D-Lux does have an extended warranty available free-of-charge to USA customers --- a third year. So it would be this you would lose if you didn't get a camera supplied by a USA dealer. Jeff.
andybarton Posted February 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 12, 2009 On a "cheap" item like a D-Lux 4, this is more trouble than it's worth, IMHO. Buy from your local Leica dealer, and do your community a favour.
