Hi, I'm new on this nice forum and interested in a D-Lux4/LX3 as a compact with good all-around quality, with candid/low light being important. I saw this comparison of 2 cameras side by side and did the LX3 and G10, as the Leica was not on the list. It was done on tripod, no flash and they show the "best result obtained", choosing from automatic mode, P mode tested on all ISOs or Candle/Night mode when available. Basically, the camera chooses settings. The text is in French. Face-à-Face : Appareils photo numériques - Les Numeriques In studio light both cameras perform as expected for their respective sensors... But the most interesting for me was the "faible eclairage" ("low light") and "detail faible eclairage" ("crop of low light"). Just for fun I did a couple of quick quantitations of mean intensity of gray values in both images (full and crop) converted to grayscale, and the result is the LX3 images being an impressive 2,5 to 3 fold brighter than the G10's. I was expecting 1,5-2 fold, based on the hardware specs... It's not perfect, but how useful/fair/meaningful do you guys think this selection and comparison of the "best possible automatic result" from each is? Cheers, f.
