I use the same 16mm Zenitar on the M8 with an Elephoto M42 to Leica M adapter. It works surprisingly well, although due to the crop factor, as you can see from Peter's photos, it loses much of the fish-eye effect.

So do I, Wilson. Pictures taken with it on the M8 can be seen here:

It seems to that all the M8 I know of have had this 'line' problem. All the M8 I know the history of, here in the small Leica comunity of Norway, have had their M8s sent to Solms for fixing. It dawns on me that Leica might not have profited at all on their M8 sales due to this 'line' problem alone.

But....

It seems that when the camera has been sent to Solms, the fix is 'for ever'. Anyone here with a M8 that have had several trips to the factory for this 'line' problem?

I do not think Leica can do software CCD pixel mapping. But all CCD has some dead pixels. SO If Leica is replacing all the CCD , they are mad, digging their own grave. I hope they will develop pixel mapping software for it so we can do it ourselves.

This is my second trip to Leica, and I had a same problem b4.

Is the viewfinder one with framelines in it?..... how do you use it with different focal lengths?

Isabelle, no, it's just point-n-shoot, single focal length, usable only at the widest setting. It has one frameline near the finder edge that I can't figure out, and then another inside that which matches the field of the 24mm equivalent lens. The view is standard Leica 3:2 format.

I see its advantage as being that it's a little less noticeable to have the camera at your eye than to hold it at arms' length, and you get a little better support that way as well. When you turn on "External VF" mode, the camera turns off the LCD, both saving battery and also perhaps adding to any stealthiness you've achieved. If Autofocus is turned on, pressing the shutter half-way energizes AF, and when the camera gets focus the green focus confirmation dot appears at the top of the LCD screen within your peripheral vision. Chimp/Review is disabled, of course.

Seems pretty well thought out, though I'd like to know what the surrounding frame is for.

If you move the zoom lever, the LCD screen turns on during the zoom, then turns off again. A reminder, I guess, that you're changing something that perhaps shouldn't be changed with the current settings.

Wilson is right, a fixed finder with a zoom lens makes no sense--except when using the lens at that focal length. :)

The finder is just slightly off-center on its shoe so it doesn't interfere with the pop-up flash.

And the grip mounts to the camera's tripod socket and presents its own tripod socket beneath the optical axis--a feature even the M8 doesn't have.

Does that means that you have sent in the one and the same camera for fixing this 'line' problem twice?

I want to know, because it is a wast difference if this 'line' problem is going to come back every now and then or if the fix is permanent. I have no belief in that this line thing is a dead pixel.

No This is camera which was replaced by dealer. BUT..... Last repair , they had replaced CCD and main circuit board, too. So I think Kodak have dodgy CCD. Leica should get free CCD from Kodak for all this line fault. ANd after warranty expired, M8 owner should not be charged for CCD fault because this is clearly a defect! Nikon/Sony/ Canon....Does this some time and do any repair for defect at free of charge even camera was 3 years old!

I think this will be on going problem we all going to face.

Well I'll certainly be PO'd IF in the future I have a line problem on either of my M8's as both have had the CCD changed for this problem.

We won't know until it happens to someone with a out of warranty camera and they post on this or other Leica camera forum.
