crodge Posted February 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, This is my first post here, I own a Nikon D300 which is a great camera (used mainly for wildlife photography, Tigers specifically) but i am currently looking for a smaller camera to keep with me at all times. My last compact digital suffered from shutter lag and slow start up times...Have things changed much? I am used to the instant response from my DSLR. Would appreciate your input Regards Chris
Advertisement Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Hi crodge, Take a look here D-Lux 4 - Shuuter/Start-up Lag. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
USA road racer Posted February 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2009 Well, just turned on my D-Lux 4 and it was ready to go in under 2 seconds. Took 15 available light - no flash photos inside my home. No shutter lag. I have a Canon P&S that can't do that. Get the D-Lux 4, you'll never leave home with out it! richsimp1 Posted February 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 7, 2009 Hi Chris, As the other poster said, about 2 secs to start up - so no problems there. What I was always curious about, coming from a Ricoh GX-200, was how instantly the D-Lux 4 could respond for say street shooting, ie in manual focus. (Ricohs have Snap mode for near instant shooting) The solution I have found that works for me, is to set MF, then press the focus button on the top plate to activate AF. That action locks focus on target and then reverts to MF. So providing DOF is sufficient, you can shoot away quite happily on range of subjects without AF causing any lag. Otherwise use the MF adjuster, which is OK, but not as accurate as using the Focus button.
