Gold rush - hum - Klondike...?

You're on the right track. Just follow the Chilkoot Pass and the Klondike Trail - the gold prospectors has to cross through here on their way to Whitehorse and Dawson City.

It's some time since I read Jack London and I never made it north of BC. However, taking your hint, I would guess it's Johnsons Crossing.

Great Slave Lake?

Olsen,

The Great Slave Lake is not in the Yukon Territory - it is in the Northwest Territories, about 1500 km's away. It would have been quite a detour for somebody who was travelling through the Chilkoot Pass to Whitehorse.......Read my responses to your guesses, there are many clues - all are pasted below..

Best,

Jan

Somewhere in Yukon Territory? Like White Horse Yukon?

That is very close, Olsen..... I need a more precise location - think lake, railway, gold rush.....

Stefan,

You got the right hint but the wrong location. Slightly further west.......

It has also been quite some time snce I read Jack London but I don't think he ever mentioned this place in any of his books.

Jan

Hint: Europe. but not within the European Union.

Well, it is either Iceland or Norway. I don't think it gets this cold in Iceland so my vote goes to Norway. As to where in Norway, they have a pretty long coast........

Jan,

You are very close. Could you be more specific? To help you out I have attached a picture of the same scene taken four months later....

More specific with thousands of kilometers of coastline? Pretty tough without hints.....

Since the pictures were taken from the same location I can assume that you may live close by. Is it Oslo? Does it get that cold in Oslo?

Best,

Jan

Jan,

I gave a hint that I would pick a destination that was 'at the same latitude as Whitehorse'. Well, Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada is at about 60 degrees, while the Oslo Harbour is at 59 degrees plus some minutes.

Indeed it gets 'so cold here in Oslo'. Last winter was mild, actually. Back in the 60' you could go skating from Oslo to Copenhagen during some of the 'really' cold winters.

Oslo is correct. I live right up the hill in the background. Congratulations, Jan. Your turn!
