dem331 Posted June 18, 2016 Share #16122 Posted June 18, 2016 The Monogram IHS, for Jesus, is a Catholic abbreviation and a Jesuit symbol. i would say that this is a Jesuit church or other building in the Americas.

war Posted June 18, 2016 Share #16124 Posted June 18, 2016 This looks like Andean Hybrid Baroque, I'm going to guess Colonial Peru, Perhaps Arequipa?
otto.f Posted June 18, 2016 Share #16125 Posted June 18, 2016 Bull's eye in one try, war. Arequipa it is. Over to you
war Posted June 18, 2016 Share #16126 Posted June 18, 2016 That was a guess based on the Peruvian stonework, so I don't know anything about it. Do you know anything else about this Jesuit building? Give me a minute to find something challenging to post.

Do you know anything else about this Jesuit building? Give me a minute to find something challenging to post. Alas, I don't know more about it. It was my first time in Peru and I was more interested in the indigenous cultures. Actually I could be irritated quite fast by Spanish catholicism there, maybe there comes a time that I will re-evaluate it. I just found this a nice facade.
dem331 Posted June 19, 2016 Share #16129 Posted June 19, 2016 Ok, I will guess. A Roman road in the Alps.
dem331 Posted June 19, 2016 Share #16130 Posted June 19, 2016 Going back to Otto's post, the house is Casona Irraberry, now part of the University and used as an art museum. It dates from 1743 and was a large colonial palace. I identified it with the help of a Peruvian friend and San Google, as he is known in Spain.
war Posted June 19, 2016 Share #16131 Posted June 19, 2016 Not a Roman road and not the Alps.
dem331 Posted June 19, 2016 Share #16132 Posted June 19, 2016 I assume it is a road. I was tempted to guess the Andes again but the stonework does not look right.

war Posted June 20, 2016 Share #16136 Posted June 20, 2016 Tombstone sort of thing? Or Pyrenees? Nothing to do with burials and not in the Pyrenees.
war Posted June 20, 2016 Share #16137 Posted June 20, 2016 I assume it is a road. I was tempted to guess the Andes again but the stonework does not look right. Not a road. The stonework is unique to this area, and Andes is correct.
dem331 Posted June 20, 2016 Share #16138 Posted June 20, 2016 Could be some of those terraces used for planting crops/vegetables on the slopes. If so it would be from a civilization prior to the Incas or a parallel civilization that was less advanced, which I am not aware of. In any case probably what is now Peru. Terraces yes, no evidence of crops though. Can't answer the second question without misleading you.
