Finn Slough on the Fraser River, British Columbia, Jan?

Cheers, Ken.

Now - how did you get that, Ken?

Yes, Finn Slough it is. Almost in my 'backyard' - Vancouver's suburb of Richmond. Surprisingly, this area is just a 10-minute drive from Vancouver!

Over to you.

Best,

Jan

Finn Slough appears to be a fascinating place, Jan - not only visually but historically too (I read a short summary of its background by David Dorrington).

Right, here's the next one. From which landmark would this photo have been taken?

Cheers, Ken.

(Ooops, in my rush, I forgot to straighten that horizon.)

OK, I'll bite first to move the post up a little...... It is in Europe, probably northern or western France, overlooking a war memorial / battlefield.....

Spot on so far, Jan.

That's it, Jan. Well done. In the distance you can see the traditional mining areas around Lens which include Courrières where 1100 miners died in a disaster in 1906. The Vimy Ridge Memorial commemorates over 11,000 Canadians who were to die less than ten years later.

Over to you, Jan.

Thanks, Ken. Yes, this indeed is a special place for Canadians.

I am slowly running out of suitable digital material and may have to start scanning photos from my pre-digital era.... For the next challenge, I will need to know where we are and the name of this oddity.

Good luck,

Jan

Bingo!

At least it was sunny when you visited. This was my second visit to Carcross, this time while on an Alaska cruise. First time was about 20 years ago, when I spent a week hiking from Skagway across the Chilkoot Pass into the Yukon Territory.

Lot more comfortable this time......

Over to you, Peter.

I took the picture on my Alaskan cruise as well. A few minutes of sun then overcast again.

Here's the next one. What is the name of the church and in what city is it located?

That substantial building looks like a cathedral - Spanish Gothic / Baroque. Spanish Colonial - South America?

Cheers, Ken.
