Advertisement Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi vertekijker, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Olsen Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3982 Posted March 24, 2010 Looks like some blown up bunkers. Could be many places in Eastern Europe. It looks very Hitler bunker-ish. Is it Wehrwolf in Vinntsia Ukraina or Wolfsschanze, Ketrzyn (Rastenburg) Polen?
vertekijker Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3983 Posted March 24, 2010 Poland is right, but another town. ---------------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3984 Posted March 24, 2010 Is it the Konewka bunkers (Tomaszow Mazowiecki)?
vertekijker Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3985 Posted March 24, 2010 Not there, Olsen. ----------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3986 Posted March 24, 2010 "Anlage Süd"? (South-Estern Poland)
vertekijker Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3987 Posted March 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Additional hints. In the north-east of Poland, this remnant of the second world war can be seen in a town in a well-known nature reserve. In the same small town you can also see fortifications from tsarist times. ----------------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3988 Posted March 25, 2010 Biebrzanski National Park?
vertekijker Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3989 Posted March 25, 2010 Yes, Olsen, that is the park. The town is an entrance to this park. -------------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3990 Posted March 25, 2010 Biebrza? (I will not try to pronounce that..)
vertekijker Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3991 Posted March 25, 2010 I have been there and I have never been able to pronounce that either. It is the name of the river after which the park is named. But not the name of the town. ------------------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3992 Posted March 25, 2010 Grajewo?
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3993 Posted March 25, 2010 ...or Goniadz...?
vertekijker Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3994 Posted March 25, 2010 You are putting so much work in, Olsen! The place I have in mind has the headquarters of the park - and, as I mentioned before, there is also a 19th century tsarist-era Russian fortress. ----------------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3995 Posted March 25, 2010 The National Park has an adress in Godiadz, already mentioned. But the fortress you mention, could that be in Osowiec Twerdza?
vertekijker Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3996 Posted March 25, 2010 Yes! Yes! Yes! It is Osowiec!!! I quote from 'The Rough Guide to Poland': '(...) the twisted ruin of a concrete bunker just over the other side of the railway is a reminder of a fierce World War II battle between German and Russian forces.' (p.279) I believe that this bunker was part of the so-called 'Molotov Line'. Your turn, Olsen. Well deserved! ------------------ Frans
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3997 Posted March 25, 2010 I wonder; did you go there to photograph the rich birdlife in the marshlands at the National Park? If so, if you have some bird pictures to show us?
vertekijker Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3998 Posted March 25, 2010 Dear Olsen, Yes, I went mainly for the birdlife, but I am not a nature photographer. I only use the M-system and that is not ideal for pics of birds, needless to say. Street photography with pictures of people is my thing. Birds I like to observe with binoculars - Leicas of course. Are you a bird watcher? ------------------------- Frans
Olsen Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3999 Posted March 25, 2010 I am home with high fever and the flue. Give me a day and I'll come up with a new picture.
vertekijker Posted March 26, 2010 Share #4000 Posted March 26, 2010 Get well soon. I hope it wasn't all the research you had to do to get the answer! Thank you for playing along. I am curious about the photo you will post. ------------------ Frans
