taildraggin Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3931 Posted March 18, 2010 Clues: There are only a few official 'airports' in Haiti. This is one. There are approx. 60,000 people in this city. Besto, - Charlie
msk2193 Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3932 Posted March 18, 2010 Jacmel?
taildraggin Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3933 Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) Jacmel has nice paved runway with an (armed, Canadian, web-enabled) Air Traffic Control Porch. Our place is more rustic. - Charlie Edited March 18, 2010 by taildraggin
taildraggin Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3934 Posted March 18, 2010 It's very quiet. Okay, an overhead shot of the metropolitan area and airport...
Guest suilvenman Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3935 Posted March 18, 2010 Running out of possibilities. Cap-Haïtien? (But its population is over 200,000). Cheers, Ken.
vertekijker Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3936 Posted March 18, 2010 Is it 'Les Cayes'? ----------------- Frans
vertekijker Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3937 Posted March 18, 2010 Or might it be 'Anse-à-Galets'? ------------------ Frans
taildraggin Posted March 18, 2010 Share #3938 Posted March 18, 2010 Yes! Anse-a-Galets on Isle de La Gonave. Your turn, Frans! Cap Haitien is the second of 2 "real" commercial airports in Haiti (PaP the other, of course). Les Cayes is pretty nice, but a small plane airport. Only Hinche on the mainland is worse than La Gonave. I think we've mentioned all the airports in Haiti have been mentioned now. BTW: La Gonave makes Port au Prince look prosperous. It is one of the poorest places I have been - compares to the worst of Africa, etc. 120,000 people on a small desert island, one hospital (a clinic, really) with 1 full time doctor and a few nurses. 6 policemen. I counted 4 trucks on the island. Of the fishing fleet, I saw one with an engine. It was pretty to see small sailing vessels working the waters, though. If you ever felt like helping one of the most needy, desperate places, here is more info on where to help. I met these folks and they are making a huge difference and getting it done on very little: Caribe Atlantic Area Sorry for the sermon. - Charlie
vertekijker Posted March 19, 2010 Share #3939 Posted March 19, 2010 Thank you Charlie. I used Google maps to follow the whole coastline of Haiti to discover something that looked like the bit of land you showed in your last photograph. Give me a little time to find something else. ----------- Frans
