Looks hard enough to me. I don't know where to start! Maybe by asking first if it is in China?

Frans

oh ...no its not in China. Perhaps I will drop a few more clues if it is too hard but lets see if anyone else has an insight first!

Shall I say that it is in a tropical climate ...

Beh,

Very interesting to read about Khoo Kongsi. Even though I have spent a lot of time in the area, I did not know about the clans. Are you a member of any fo the clans/families?

No, fortunately or unfortunately I must be one of those many who avoided such ... mainly because my would-be name clan were pretty hopeless at this kind of jobs-for-the-boys networks! :D

I don't really want to take the thread off topic, but perhaps I can explain that such clan houses were pretty common because they catered to the immigrants who came from China to South East Asia and needed care and leads on arrival; but nowadays they are much less important and retain more a less a cultural heritage stature rather than any great economic or community presence though some of the richer and well maintained Kongsi like the Khoo Kongsi do retain some clout in the local community.

There are several clan houses remaining thoughout Penang and Malaysia, Singapore, but the Khoo Kongsi is pretty unique to its rich architecture dating back to the strait settlement days, and the fact that the Kongsi is still a community presence due to its influential descendants.

Maybe I will post some picture of its interior in the forum if anyone is interested - taken with the little Leica vario summicron 5.1mm to 12.8mm f2.0-2.8 asph ... ;)

We go every year to Malaysia and Singapore, my wife and I. Guess, we are some sort of 'Malaysia & Singapore-filiacs'. Where in Malaysia do you come from? Penang?

I would very much like to see the interior shots. It can't be that 'stiff' here that we can't stray a little from the subject.

Frans,

- When it comes to you, I get very wary. The places is most often 180 degrees from where I naturally think they would be....

Actually

It look strikingly similar to the railway station at Hamar, Norway. Except for the lack of tagging on the walls, chewinggum marks and the tidy kept tree. So, it got to be Japan.

Is it a railway station we see?

Are you a detective or something? That is an excellent line of reasoning! Yes, a railway station in Japan! But where...
