The earthquake faultlines in the area pushed these rocks up - it is very close to the San Andreas Fault. I was told that the place was named after a bandit who would hide there from the police whenever things got a bit too hot in the city... Nice place to visit. BTW a friend of mine who lives in Atlanta she did know quite well that University and I remember that once she said to me "we do have the pantheon too!!" as soon as she saw the original one!
