I can't remember to be honest but if it is what I think it is an hotel with a British name...I had dinner there once

ok, you are close - it is the Raffles Hotel

Raffles Hotel is a colonial-style Hotel, dating from 1887 and named after Singapore's founder Sir Stamford Raflles.

The Hotel was founded by four Armenian Sarkies Brothers. Owned by an Arab trader

Syed Mohamad Alsagoff.

Guest: Hermann Hesse, Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham, Charlie Chaplin Ava Gardner, Michael Jackson ..etc. etc

Andy is your turn :)

Dear wls,

Sorry to jump in here again. When I wrote to tell you that California was correct, I was hoping that you would also mention the town (the state is an awfully big place, isn't it?). It is the mission church in Santa Barbara. Ok. just wanted to get that in! Let's have some more fun with this game!

Ok, that is embarrassing, as (a) I live only an hour or two from this, (B) I have visited a couple of times, and © worse of all, I photographed this last year (with a 4x5 camera, no less, which means it was not an idle snap). And I STILL did not get it. Hmmphf.
