Well, I am speechless!

Indeed, it is taken from Google, but, to the best of my knowledge, these air photos have been taken by Leica lenses provided, unless I am mistaken, by Leica Geosystems, therefore respecting this thread rules.

In the spirit of the game, I think the original idea is that the photograph entered should have been taken by the poster him/herself using Leica equipment. That's what I've always understood anyway. If the Google one was to be deemed acceptable simply because Leica lenses were used, then why not enter a landscape of India by Cartier-Bresson or a South American one by Salgado?

  • Ken is right. The implicit understanding was up to now that you post a picture you have taken yourself. Please have a look at the pictures in the preceding 554 pages.
  • The forum's rules are applicable here as well as in any other sub forum: pictures posted in the forum are required to be made with gear made by Leica. Also, you must only post pictures when you are the owner of the appropriate rights. Leica Geosystems is quite another company as the one which produces photographic cameras and lenses, BTW.
  • The thread is a game, i.e. it exists for amusement only. No one gains or loses by posting a puzzle.

In this particular instance I do not wish to pose the next puzzle. Since geaibleu explicitly states that he has no suitable picture to post, I yield to anyone who wants to supply the next puzzle.

Ok. Then, here is the same picture that I have taken myself with Leica equipment, in the same way that I could photograph a painting by Rembrandt, or play a Mozart sonata.

In other words, it is my version of a known object.

Objections this time?

I have removed your picture again, for the same reasons as before.

If the data in your personal profile are anywhere near correct, you have presumably taken the picture in Ontario, Canada, off your screen.

Now please stop disturbing this game.

Sheer nonsense.

The thread is about knowing the world, not about knowing the photographer!

I think that 'knowing the photographer' is an important aspect of this thread and particularly his/her experience of the location that they show when they enter a photograph. Sometimes the poster adds supplementary background information about the location which is made more interesting precisely because it is from a personal perspective.

As Philipp says, it's a game that's really meant to be shared and enjoyed.

Seeing that it might be difficult for anyone to resume the game: I accept Otto's suggestion and therefore submit the next puzzle:

What is this, and where?

Taken with a Lumix DMC-LC1 with its beautiful Leica lens.

Hi Philipp,

Haven't played this game for a long time. I was a regular for years. The change in lay-out made it harder for me to find this thread on my computer. Bad excuse, I know.

But I want to commit more again, especially after the last discussion I just saw. It is wonderful how long this game has been around. I started playing it from fairly early on. It has always worked well with the rules we had in place. Let's keep it like that.

Ok, now for my guess.I really don't know where this is, but put my detective cap on. I seem to recognize the word 'Bulgaria' or 'Bulgarie' on the wall, and in front of that the word 'de', but not so sure about that. Is this an embassy building from Bulgaria in a French-speaking country? Paris maybe?

Cheers,

Frans

Hi Frans - nice meeting you here again.

I'm afraid, it's not an embassy building and it's not in France.

EDIT: There is indeed a connection to Bulgaria and the text is in French, both of which I hadn't realized before, even if it's visible in one of the pictures of this site. Good sleuthing, Frans.

No excuses necessary, Frans. Your absence has not gone unnoticed. It's really good to see back here again.

Here's a somewhat different perspective of the same object, which might be more familiar. It offers a couple of other cues, as well.

I do not recognise the guy. Originally I thought it might be Lenin but it appears to be too new and this guy only has a mustache.

The bricks hint at England? Alternatively: somewhere in the north of Europe?

Some more bricks of the same building complex (even of the same wall). The memorial is just a few meters to the left of the tourist.

If you can't identify the memorial, the building complex will do.

Warning: the reference to bricks and walls is deliberately misleading.

Not Nobel, but you're looking in the right direction.

Now I'm standing roughly were the other tourist was in the last shot, with the memorial to my left. The whitish spots are raindrops on my front lens.
