gearoido Posted March 10, 2011 Share #7121 Posted March 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think I will venture a long shot based on the fish being a salmon. The Train Depot in Kirkudbright Scotland, and I mean long shot. GaryO
Advertisement Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hi gearoido, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
euston Posted March 10, 2011 Share #7122 Posted March 10, 2011 I'm afraid your shot ended up in the rough, Gary. We're further south than Scotland. The fish is a game fish but not a salmon.

euston Posted March 11, 2011 Share #7125 Posted March 11, 2011 Looks like a grayling to me with the big dorsal fin.... are we somewhere on the rivers test/itchen ?? Yes, thighslapper, but which chalk stream and what and where precisely? I always assumed the weather vane was a trout.
thighslapper Posted March 11, 2011 Share #7126 Posted March 11, 2011 I can find an identical weathervane on a thatched eel trap hut at longstock on the river Test.... but thats as far as I can go. My father has fished the Test & Itchen but I have never been there. I will get him to take a look tomorrow.... or is that cheating ?!!
euston Posted March 12, 2011 Share #7127 Posted March 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) You’re very close, thighslapper. The River Test it is and a short walk downstream will get you to our location. I see no problem with the solution being a family affair. Your father will know the place but whether he can locate the clock remains to be seen. Good luck!

euston Posted March 12, 2011 Share #7129 Posted March 12, 2011 Well done, thighslapper! Yes, it’s the lovely little town of Stockbridge on the River Test in Hampshire where the trout swim about under the main road. The building with the clock tower is the old Town Hall. I think village hall is close enough. Here are a couple of sites with a little more information about the river and the town: FishPal - England - Test and Itchen - About The Test Stockbridge - Places to Visit - Visit Hampshire - The Official Tourism Website for Hampshire Over to you now, thighslapper! gmo Posted March 14, 2011 Share #7134 Posted March 14, 2011 Could we be looking at the "Etang de Montady" from the "Oppidum d' Ensérune" near Beziers - France? Regards Gerd
thighslapper Posted March 14, 2011 Share #7135 Posted March 14, 2011 Correct Gerd. Oppidum d' Ensérune is an ancient hillfort - a very peaceful atmospheric place The odd field structure is due to the gradual drainage of what was originally a swamp. Your turn.... Olsen Posted March 15, 2011 Share #7140 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) A simply aweful building! That's how it goes Olsen - I've deleted the rest of your comment since it is insensitive and insulting, and not to be tolerated on this forum. Please refrain from posting anything of this ilk again.
