Jot Posted January 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all. I have been trying to find this hood (number 12506) for the 21mm f4 Super Angulon R lens. Has anyone seen any out there - it can't be so unusual. Any help appreciated. Ivar B Posted January 28, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2009 These are not hard to find. There are some out on eBay now, here is one of them: Leica Leitz Lens Hood (12506) R 21mm f/4 Angulon 21 f4 - eBay (item 260346017194 end time Feb-11-09 14:02:17 PST)
Jot Posted January 29, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted January 29, 2009 Yep, I'm finding out just how hard they are to get! I've seen the two on Fleabay but there's no shipping to UK from either of the shops, plus there's the charges by the post office ... I found to my cost recently, that the UK Post Office 'handling fee' is much more than the Customs charges on items under £100! I really must stick to UK/Europe in order to avoid this. All the same, thanks for your reply & interest. JOT
TimF Posted January 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2009 There's one at Meister Camera in Hamburg for €149 if it's of interest. I can't get a direct link to work properly, so you need to click on secondhand, then on accessories, then on Leica Lens Hoods. It's on page 2. Jot Posted January 29, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted January 29, 2009 Hi TimF. It seems (maybe) that I am never statisfied ...? This hood is closer to home than the Fleabay items but is more than I want to pay. Its possible I don't have a clue what these things cost but that price is too high, for me anyway. I guess this is why the previous owner of the lens didn't bother? I thank you for finding it as I need to see what the market is. It might be I end up with a 72mm rubber W/A hood - as the dealer suggested! JOT
TimF Posted January 29, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 29, 2009 No problem. It's most likely that the lens and hood became separated at some point, seeing as all Leica lenses are sold with one. I've recently had to shell out for hoods for a couple of M optics, but it's worth it I feel. All the best with your quest anyway.
Jot Posted January 30, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted January 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi TimF & all those interested. Thanx for your thoughts & help. Having 'slept on it' I have decided to keep looking because something will turn up eventually. I too prefer the correct hoods on my Leitz/Leica lenses so in time I will get one for the 21mm. However, I woke to a glorious winter morning so I took the lens out to the woods on on my Canon 5d. (oops, sorry!) It seems I've been fussing too much about the hood instead of using the lens! And I like it! Optically, mechanically & cosmetically it is like new and I am less inclined to spend €150 on the hood as this is almost what I paid for ther lens. (it was a bargain!) I have attached a coupla pix for perusal. Rest assured, the lens will be used not only on digital but also my SL2,R6 & R7! Welcome, dear visitor! TimF Posted January 30, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 30, 2009 it was a bargain! Wow! You're not kidding. I like the second picture most. Shame about the contrail at bottom right though.
Jot Posted January 30, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted January 30, 2009 Hi TimF, glad you like the pix. I noticed the trail, of course - & a little bit of work in PShop will have it out. The lens is lovely and was a real bargain. And there seem to be many such bargains around, at the moment. I've had Leica R for 35 years but never has the equipment been so inexpensive on the S/H market. Last year I got a mint & boxed late version 180 f2.8 (not the earlier 'heavy') for £245. You can understand my frustration at not being able to find a 21mm hood at a more reasonable price. Having said that, I saw one yesterday on sale in Europe for €100, so that isn't quite so bad. My opinion is that's still too much at the moment - have I become mean in my old age?
