jimbo035 Posted January 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) in an other thread I wrote: " My D-Lux 4 arrived today with "Capture 4.1" on the DVD label .. but as I already installed Silky Pix (that came with the "Panny" FX150 traded in for the DL4) which supports the DL4 & sorts out converging verticals and chromatic aberrations, I may not bother with the Phase One stuff." Wrong ! Developer 3 supports the D-Lux 4 ... whereas the SilkyPix bundled with the FX150 is Developer 3.O SE. ( SE = Special Edition, apparently) . So I "need to bother" with the Phase One software in the DL4 box after all.
Advertisement Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Hi jimbo035, Take a look here DL 4 not supported by SilkyPix Developer 3.0SE. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dorman Posted January 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2009 Yes, I had the same experience. SilkyPix SE version only works with the camera it was supplied with! What a pain.
jimbo035 Posted January 25, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted January 25, 2009 Miffed by the discovery that I shall have to continue searching for MAC/DL4 compatible imaging software with "converging vertical correction" that costs less than the ninety seven UK Pounds SilkyPix are asking for the "full" version of Developer 3. Why exactly are you searching? C1 is shipped with the DLux 4 for a reason -- it corrects the barrel distortion present at extreme wide angles. You can also upgrade free of charge to the latest version (4.6 I think) at no cost via Phase's web site. Jeff.
ho_co Posted January 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 26, 2009 Jim-- I don't know SilkyPix SE, so this might or might not work: Will SPSE read JPGs or DNGs or TIFFs? If so, you could create one of those (DNG in Adobe DNG Converter, TIFF in Capture One, JPG in the camera) and then open it in SPSE to correct verticals. I don't have Photoshop Elements, but you might want to find out whether it will do the job you want. It might be a more general RAW converter for the same or lower price as full-featured SilkyPix. Or you might want to take a photography course (or Photoshop course) at a nearby college or university. Adobe makes Photoshop available at a greatly reduced price to photo students, and Photoshop is certainly a lot easier to learn with a structured, classroom approach than on one's own. jimbo035 Posted January 26, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted January 26, 2009 Jeff asked :Why exactly are you searching? Because Barrel Distortion is not the same as Converging Verticals i.e the result of tipping a camera upwards to include all of a towering building - or in my case usually a church spire or tower. Not always possible to step further back , keeping the camera horizontal and thereby get all the building into the top half of the frame, even with a 24mm lens. Further "digging" has revealed that correction of converging verticals has probably been carried over from Photoshop Elements 5 into 6. Possible to buy for less than SilkyPix, apparently.
