hawkeye_a Posted October 19, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, got a really newbie question here. was out with my D-Lux 3 and i accidentally tried to put the lens cap on backwards, i didnt force it or anything. That doesnt pose a risk to the actual lens itself, does it ? Sorry for the really juvenile question, but ive never had a camera with a lens cap before Cheers

HPS3000 Posted October 19, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2006 Hi Aaron, if you didn't force the lens cap on ... and no scratches are visible afterwards, then your camera should be fine :-) ... just take a quick look at the lens to be sure. Greetings from Germany HP
miami91 Posted October 19, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 19, 2006 And presumably the lens was retracted (you had turned the power switch off). In which case, the lens itself is recessed enough behind the front of the barrel that the cap, either side of it (!), shouldn't come into contact with the glass. My D-Lux 3 is "out for delivery" by UPS as I write! So I should be cracking open the box later tonight. Jeff (current owner of M7, CM, C-Lux 1, past owner of D1, D2, D-Lux1, D-Lux2). miami91 Posted October 19, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2006 Good luck with the DLUX3 , here is a shot I took last weekend early morning Beautiful image David! I know a lot of people are fretting over the packing of more pixels into the same size sensor, but I really liked the DL1 and DL2, and after selling the DL2 on eBay, I was able to upgrade to the DL3 for about $150.00. So it seemed like a no-brainer. Used at ISO 100 or 200, I think it delivers quite nicely. Take care. Jeff.

hawkeye_a Posted October 20, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted October 20, 2006 Hey David, since you got a DLUX3 as well, could u do us a favour and see if the cap would touch the lens if it touched the barrel the wrong way around ? My lens doesnt have any marks on it at all.. but id just like some confirmation Cheers
davidada Posted October 20, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 20, 2006 Hi, I took a quick look and (gently) tried to place the cap in reverse, however the cap is slightly convex along with of course the lens- it looks to me as if it could touch if you applied pressure - you can understand why I did not take the test any further. If you cannot see any sctartches in a good light I think yoyu are ok
hawkeye_a Posted October 21, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted October 21, 2006 Thanks dude. thats what i saw as well. Cheers
bradreiman Posted October 21, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 21, 2006 plus....even if you did scratch it a bit you will probably never notice on image. scratch-free lenses help for resale value but scratches are rarely visible in the image unless its a real gouge. enjoy....b
