chrisnl Posted October 20, 2006 Share #41 Posted October 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since we are OT at the moment anyway, i might as well ask a small question in between: I have heard, that Voigtländer lenses would fit on a M8. But can I also use a Voigtländer Zoomatic on the M8? They have been made for the Bessamatic back in the 60s. Are they all M39? Greets, Chris

chrisnl Posted October 20, 2006 Share #42 Posted October 20, 2006 and BTW, I hate Paypal: I sold a french horn over ebay and had to pay 135 Euro to paypal.
jrgeoffrion Posted October 20, 2006 Share #43 Posted October 20, 2006 Technically... I've asked my developer to scratch his head but thanks very much for the offer to help. Cheers, Sean It's rather straightforward, just place the file (DNG) in any of your server directory and place a link to it.
sean_reid Posted October 20, 2006 Author Share #44 Posted October 20, 2006 It's rather straightforward, just place the file (DNG) in any of your server directory and place a link to it. Hi JR, Of course, but I'm looking for something more secure. Cheers, Sean
jrgeoffrion Posted October 20, 2006 Share #45 Posted October 20, 2006 Hi JR, Of course, but I'm looking for something more secure. Cheers, Sean I don't think it would create a security issue for your server. If you are concerned about "others" (than your subscribers) downloading the image, you can ask your web guru about putting a hotlinking blocker. This will prevent download of the file from servers other than yours (or that your give access to).

Guest flatfour Posted October 20, 2006 Share #48 Posted October 20, 2006 Good grief, I couldn't spend time just testing. I'd want to be out taking the best pictures I could. I admire your dedication.
sean_reid Posted October 20, 2006 Author Share #49 Posted October 20, 2006 Actually, they didn't have any spare batteries yet so there's just one. <G> Today is ISO testing and misc. Tomorrow all day is shooting "in the real world". Of course, I did "real world" shooting with the earlier M8s so tomorrow is mostly to get example pictures I can publish. And I'm not going to try to make the best pictures of my career tomorrow (who wants that kind of pressure?) but instead will make example pictures that should be useful. I'm sure that KGB-69 or whatever his name is will find fault with them but to heck with the hecklers. It is a busy time and I apologize in advance that I won't be able to respond to a lot of posts for awhile. Avalanche of CV and Zeiss lenses arrived also today as well as the three requested from Leica. Zeiss itself can't yet get me lenses as fast as Tony at POPFLASH.COM - Cameras & Photographic Equipment (though Zeiss tried) and Stephen Gandy at CQ (CameraQuest Home) came through on the CVs once again. Yes, I those were plugs- they deserve them. <G> Anyone here who wants to know how those lenses do on the M8 owe these guys a tip of the hat. Also, Leica, as usual, has been fantastic to deal with. jonoslack Posted October 20, 2006 Share #50 Posted October 20, 2006 Can't imagine what possible objections you have to PayPal. Mark, The problem with them is that after you spend $10,000 with Paypal, they require you to become “verified” to use them in the future. To become verified you must give them your bank account, which in my opinion is absolute insanity. So now I simple go to the bank and get a cashiers check for those rare instances where a company does not take credit cards. In my situation they INSIST that I've received $17,500, but whenever I ring them they say; 'oh no, of course, that's wrong - you've only received $800' - then they send me another email saying that as I've received $17,500 I must verify my account and I can't reply to the email. . . . . I've done this four times now with the same result - in this case I paid Sean with a credit card and email address they didn't know about. Pain in the neck . . . AND they want 4%! kind regards jono slack
marknorton Posted October 20, 2006 Share #51 Posted October 20, 2006 Thanks Sean, I don't think any of us expect the best art but we would like pictures which demonstrate the imaging capability of the camera. Plus of course, your gut reactions to working with the "real" camera. Enjoy (as they say in the US)!
sean_reid Posted October 20, 2006 Author Share #52 Posted October 20, 2006 Hi Mark, Thanks. Actually my gut reactions to working with the real camera are basically the same as they were in the review Part One. It's the same camera with newer firmware. These new articles are mostly about file quality, etc. Cheers, Sean
burkey Posted October 20, 2006 Share #53 Posted October 20, 2006 "Best of shooting to a fellow Vermonter." As I'm not a wide-angle guy I truly look forward to seeing your results, now and in future tests, with lenses in the 40 to 75 range, (approx. M8 FoV). Anyway, I look forward to reading your report. And do have some fun making pictures. . . . David (Burkey)
wparsonsgisnet Posted October 20, 2006 Share #54 Posted October 20, 2006 Sean, Since it's your fault that I bot a 24mm lens, I look forward to hearing your thots about its handling on the M8. I won't have mine for a few weeks, yet. Regards, and thanks in advance for the forthcoming, first-rate articles.
John Maio Posted October 20, 2006 Share #55 Posted October 20, 2006 John the trick with paypal and with e-bay is ignore all e-mails that come in to you. If there is something important that needs to be done with either one on of them than you will be asked when you log in. But yes i do get e-mails from both and i simply delete them Guy is right. In addition, talented "spoofers" have imitated other banks that I use, such as Wells Fargo, and American Express, etc. Spammimg/Spoofing is unfortunately not just an eBay issue. Ignore/delete all emails as most evety institution will flag you about something when log in.
wparsonsgisnet Posted October 20, 2006 Share #56 Posted October 20, 2006 Spammimg/Spoofing is unfortunately not just an eBay issue. Ignore/delete all emails as most evety institution will flag you about something when log in. Actually, no financial institution or organization like Ebay or Paypal will use an email to communicate. A financial institution will send snail mail -- as those of use who have had id's stolen and had to change them, know. Incidentally, I am getting a new kind of phishing in the last few weeks. These take the form of messages purported to be from an internet Mail Forwarder. I delete these when the contents don't look like anything I have sent. Real Mail Forwarding failure messages would not have a link in them, of course. I think the best news of the week is the reporting that Apple shipped brand-new ipods that contained a virus that attacked only windoze computers. I know it was a mistake .... sean_reid Posted October 22, 2006 Author Share #58 Posted October 22, 2006 Not a PayPal comment I'm afraid but the review is now live. <G> I've been working at it constantly since the camera batt was first charged. This is part 2 and covers a lot of IQ aspects. Cheers, Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 22, 2006 Share #59 Posted October 22, 2006 Sean just finished reading the whole deal. Very well written first off and also as most of us expected of the results. Great job and the images look great also . i can see very well how it will compare to the DMR in color and saturation, to me looking at the fruit and veggies. i can see the leica red , yellows are very accurate to what we see in the DMR. Frankly i am very excited to get one. The interesting part is wht we were talking about in another thread with regards to coding and actually applying the vignetting to the raw, that was what Iroginal heard an seems to be the case . the beauty as always in the ability to turn it off. LOL Great job my friend and looking forward to more reviews, now sit back drink a cognac and relax:D
