chrispatel Posted January 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Canon 5d with my trust 24-70 2.8 lens and I am looking for something a little lighter and easier to carry for PJ/family stuff. I have been giving some thought on Digilux 2 or D-lux 4? Both can be had for about the same price. Any advice for a newbie? Chris

While the D-Lux 4 is new, a lot of feedback is forthcoming here on the forum. Regarding the Digilux 2, you will find fantastic information on Thorsten Overgaard's site and additional information in my journal. leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Sites - Leica Digilux 2 sample photos and tests (as well as Panasonic DMC-LC1) The Leica Digilux*2 - Journal - Motorsports Photographer ~ John Thawley :: Photography of American Le Mans, Grand Am, SPEED World Challenge
rjans Posted January 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2009 When the D-Lux 4 was launched (owning a D-Lux3) I had to make a decission: D-Lux 4 or Digilux 2. I choose the Digilux 2 and have no regrets. It is at this moment my freferred digital camera. It feels like a real camera. Have a look around in the Forum: there are several threads about the digilux 2. Best
chrispatel Posted January 17, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted January 17, 2009 I have been reading a ton all morning and I think I am going to get a Digi 2. Now all I need to do is find a seller. Thanks, Chris

Douglasco Posted January 17, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2009 I have had my digilux 2 for about six weeks now and I have found it to be a superb camera, I do not use my three other cameras at all now
audidudi Posted January 17, 2009 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) If either camera or print size matters greatly to you (small in the case of the former and large in the case of the latter), then the DL4 is probably the way to go. If not, though, and you appreciate a camera with controls that operate like "real" cameras once did, then the D2 is still worth considering despite its advancing years and dated technology. As for where to find one, I bought mine from Pop Flash last summer as a factory reconditioned model (which meant the sensor has been replaced and it came with a one-year factory warranty) and paid less than the going rate for used ones. I don't see any listed on their site at the moment, but you should check with them about availability before you buy one blindly elsewhere.
chrispatel Posted January 17, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I will give popflash a ring.
John Thawley Posted January 18, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 18, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I will give popflash a ring. I also picked up one of mine from PopFlash. It was in fantastic shape. I should also point out, they are extremely customer friendly. I mentioned to them that I'm always looking for "fresh" Digilux 2s... now, I typically get an email giving me specific and HONEST descriptions of what they receive. I not sure where they get them, but they continually pick up a couple here and there billed as "factory refurbished" and including a 1 year Leica warranty. audidudi Posted January 18, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 18, 2009 I also picked up one of mine from PopFlash. It was in fantastic shape. I should also point out, they are extremely customer friendly. I second both of these observations. The D2 I purchased from them looked nearly new (including even the box and packing materials!) and they were both friendly and helpful.
