MPerson Posted January 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I never shoot colour but the other day I was working in LR and got this effect which I quite like but would be grateful for others opinions. I have more on my site: Muted colours Muted 01 Muted 02 Muted
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Hi MPerson, Take a look here Muted Colours. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thompsonkirk Posted January 17, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2009 It's an interesting experiment that yields an 'old photo' faded look & plays with the viewer's sense of time. I'm surprised how well it works in the wedding shot. The images that originally had bright colors look faded by time, & those with less color look split-toned (the two shacks on your website). So that others can try it, what technique are you using? You seem to be letting a bit of red & green show, while suppressing blue, cyan, magenta, & yellow. So I guess you're using a BW conversion layer or a HS layer with all colors 100% desaturated except a bit of R & G? Kirk
ammitsboel Posted January 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks for posting Andy. So, how did you do it?
MPerson Posted January 17, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks for the comments guys. Basically I was fiddling! But as in the darkroom I take notes and have now created it as a preset and the link is as in my OP. I am not convinced it is good for skin tones(!) but does convey the effect quite well. My settings notes show: Temp 4350 Tint +7 Tone Blacks 5 Brightness +50 Contrast +25 Presence Clarity +100 Saturation -70 Tone Curve Darks -3 Shadows -14 Point Curve strong contrast Split Toning - highlights Hue 57 Saturation 15 Split Toning - shadows Hue 57 Saturation 15 Sharpening Amount 25 Radius 1.0 Detail 25 Noise Reduction Colour 25 Vignettes Lens correction Amount -85 Midpoint 34 Post-Crop Midpoint 50 Feather 50 Everything else is zero or default. Hope this helps - colour is a strange world to me
ammitsboel Posted January 17, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 17, 2009 It sure is a powerful effect. As you I get confused about colors and often feel they dilute focus in the images.
