Got toplay a little with the Panasonic version of the V-Lux-1 tonight, the FZ50, very impressed !!

Rob, I'm still using the Olympus e-330, it is my primary digital camera and will remain my primary digital SLR even after the M8 comes in. This pana FZ50 belongs to one of my daughter's friends, he brought it by to show me,, the girl in the photo is his girlfriend Jen.

Tommy, I tried one shot at ISO 1600 and it was totally useless far too much noise, but up to ISO 400 it seems quite usable;

Roger, I didn't shoot in RAW so I can't comment on its capabilities in that mode.

I know that the Leica version, the V-Lux-1, uses a different firmwear than the Pana and produces a slightly different image. However I haven't been able to get my hands on one yet.

 

I beleive that the extra year warrentee and the other extras that come with the Leica variant, along with the extra quality control from the Leica personel at the Panasonic plant, (this according to my leica rep.), justify the higher price for the Leica branded model
