jim_royer Posted October 17, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have any of the forum members actually purchased and are using your new M8. I just received information from Leica, (their news catalog) showing all their new products. I'm tempted to buy an M8 but would like user's comments, if any. Advertisement Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Hi jim_royer, Take a look here M8 users?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
larry Posted October 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2006 Jim, The camera won't be available for sale until the end of November or the beginning or December (current target date). Some of us have been lucky enough to handle the M8 at demos and it's quite impressive. Larry

marknorton Posted October 17, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2006 The closest any of us to the camera is Sean Reid who is being intentionally vague but we believe he might already have a production level review sample. We're hoping to see Part 2 of his review and some sample images from him and Leica themselves later this week. In the meantime, we're minutely dissecting the instruction manual and convincing ourselves of the need for "just one more lens". It's been a long wait. mat_mcdermott Posted October 17, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2006 As Mark says, not many of us here have a production camera, but based on the demo I've handled you're going to be very impressed. The M8 is so much like a film M that the first time I pressed the shutter I started reflexively to advance the non-existant film. Patience, it won't be long now. stevme Posted October 17, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 17, 2006 At present, I have only the 35 1.4 Lux which I use with my MP. I have also signed up to purchase the new, little 28 mm 2.8. I am now in the process of trying to find a nice, screw mount 50 mm which I intend to use for bright light situations. Since I have ordered the chrome M8, I am also looking for a retro look with a chrome 50. A new high tech camera with a 50 year old lens! The look of the older lenses in the new digital medium could be quite arresting, at least I'm hoping so. I will be getting my LTM adapter so I can use it on an M camera from cameraquest. Imagine a really old 30's look in digital.

We've already decided that our first M8 exposure with be made through a cloudy Leica 50/2 Summar lens made in 1937 if my research on its serial number is correct. -g

jim_royer Posted October 18, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted October 18, 2006 I just called my Leica camera dealer, in New York, and had my name added to his waiting list for the M8. There are already 180 on his list, before me, and he said he expects it will be Feb. or March of next year before my camera arrives. Jim
marknorton Posted October 18, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 18, 2006 So that suggests they are getting 60 - 80 a month...
