Richard D Posted January 6, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 6, 2009 Could someone here please tell me how the heck to update the CaptureOne 4.1.3 that came with my d-lux 4? I've tried everywhere on the PhaseOne site, and the best I can come up with is the demo version of 4.6 to try, even with my pin, registration number and password. It is the most confusing site I've ever encountered. It seems even impossible to contact them properly about my problem. I understood that the update is freely available for us with the earlier version. I've wasted a lot of time this afternoon and gotten nowhere. Any help would be appreciated. Richard, This is the road I took as well. That is to say, I did not use Capture One prior to acquiring a D-Lux 4. I recall that I started by installing the version that came with the camera, then installing the latest update from the website. I can't recall being asked to re-enter my serial number (definitely wasn't asked yesterday), so I would think that should work for you. Have you tried this approach with no success? As far as the demo, I don't think that matters. I believe that the demo version is a full-featured version which times out unless a proper serial number is entered. So if you start with your registered copy (the one that came with the D-Lux 4), and then download and install version 4.6, it should work fine. At least it did for me. Best of luck, Jeff. Richard D Posted January 6, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 6, 2009 Jeff, Thanks for responding. I followed your advice and tried to activate the software using the license code I got when I initially registered 4.1.2. Unfortunately, my code is only 12 digits, and the activation requires a 16 digit code. I'm back to square one, apparently.

That's the weird thing though Richard --- I haven't had to reactivate my software when updating. In other words, I installed the original version (4.1.2 apparently), activated it, and have installed 2 or 3 updates since, including 4.6, without being prompted to reenter the info. At least that's my recollection. I can say with certainty that this was the case last night, but admittedly I'm less sure about events a few weeks ago. Sorry, Jeff. Richard D Posted January 6, 2009 Share #13 Posted January 6, 2009 Thanks again, Jeff. You know, the worst thing about this is that PhaseOne makes it so difficult to contact them.
Richard D Posted January 6, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2009 One last question jeff, before I go slit my wrists (just kidding). Are you updating from one of their websites, or directly from the C! application itself. If the latter, how do you do that?
miami91 Posted January 6, 2009 Share #15 Posted January 6, 2009 One last question jeff, before I go slit my wrists (just kidding). Are you updating from one of their websites, or directly from the C! application itself. If the latter, how do you do that? No, from the website. Up till now, you couldn't initiate an update from within the app itself. I believe this is one of the new features of version 4.6. This is the link I use: Phase One - Jeff. robsteve Posted January 6, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 6, 2009 Richard: Did you have the original version registered and working properly before installing the new version? If you have registered with Phase One, you should be able to log into the Phase One web site and once you have logged in, click on the "My Account" link at the top of the page between your user name and logout. From there choose license management and there will be an option to show your license numbers. If you can't do the above, you probably haven't registered your original license number or you forgot the user name you registered it under. Capture one goes via the internet to this info to register your product automatically. I don't think you can plug your old number in the registration window of the program and have it work unless it is set up on the Phase web site first. Richard D Posted January 6, 2009 Share #17 Posted January 6, 2009 Okay. That's the site I downloaded from, but when I try to run the application, I get a dialog box that asks if I want to: 1) try CaptureOne (30 days left) 2) use CaptureOne DB 3) activate I tried going to activate, but it lists only 12 digits of an apparently 16 digit license code. So it won't activate. I don't really want to TRY CaptureOne, do I?? What's CaptureOne DB??

Robert Robert, I just did that, and got my full 16 digit account number from them, so that works. However, it says I have no free upgrades left, and one free activation left. I assume the 'activation' is simply to install on a second computer, yes? Thanks for the help.
robsteve Posted January 6, 2009 Share #19 Posted January 6, 2009 Richard: Get your license code from the Phase One web site as I directed above. It should be the proper amount of digits. The original install disk should have this number on it too. The DB version is for use with the Phase Digital Backs. It is the same program, but rather than looking for a license code, it looks for a digital back attached to the computer. I assume it is so you do not have to worry about licensing and internet connections if using one of their digital backs tethered. The purchase of the back includes Capture One and the back itself acts like a security dongle. Robert

However, it says I have no free upgrades left, and one free activation left. I assume the 'activation' is simply to install on a second computer, yes? Thanks for the help. I think they count only major upgrades. In other words, you will be fine until version 5 comes out in a few years time. The activation is how many computers you can install it on. In other words, they allow a desktop and a laptop, as long as you don't use the two at the same time. If you run out of activations, I think you can deactivate through the program or if you don't have access to the computers it is installed on, choose the deactivate all option on the web site. Did you get it installed and working now? Robert
