Just a little item of interest; the editor of the Leica fellowship went to leica UK to enquire as to the cost of having his lenses coded, if he were to buy an M8; he was astonished & and upset when he was told that it would cost him £195 for each lens!!

he promptly sat down and wrote a strong complaint to the CEO of Leica Solms, expressing his dismay.

Jerry forgive my adding an amendment. Actually I think the cost for coding is £145 - not £195 unless it has risen this week. Even £145 is excessive in my view.

Nothing Leica does goes down in price. When the Leicaflex lenses originally needed a second cam, the conversion price was $35. Within a couple years the price was $105.

When the M8 first came out, purchase entitled the buyer to a coupon (or two?) for free lens coding.

It's never beneficial to put off doing it (whatever "it" is) when it comes to Leica.

I'm not defending the strategy; I don't understand it and I can't always do it. But if you think the price is high to begin with, realize that it's just going to go up. :(
