Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2006 Richard when i had my M8 demo it was one of the first questions and from the Leica Reps mouth they are in final test of it and Imacon and Leica kissed and made up. They did not talk for months but Imacon is making the firmware upgrade. I'm waiting also
Guest rubidium Posted October 16, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 16, 2006 Indeed, for me the wait has reached the point of being frustrating. About a year ago, I built a computer around a newly-introduced multiprocessor motherboard and purchased a rather expensive (~700 USD) RAID card for managing an array of hard drives. It turned out that the version of firmware that came with the RAID card worked fine, but when I upgraded the firmware to the latest released version to take advantage of some key improvements, the card stopped working with that motherboard (some sort of timing conflict). I outlined the problems I was having in an email to the manufacturer in Taiwan, and reverted to the previous firmware version, thinking it would take several months for them to fix things and release a new version. No so! Within hours, I received copies of email traffic sent by the manufacturer requesting contacts within the firms who made my motherboard and hard drives to Fedex them these items ASAP. Three days later, I received an email from Taiwan containing a beta firmware attachment for me to test. After I responded back that it worked perfectly, they made a general release of it. The point is that firmware problems can generally be solved quickly - if there's a commitment to do so. I suspect that, regarding DMR v1.3, it's probably a 10-day job - at worst - to fix what's broken, but Imacon didn't even begin to lift a finger on it for months. I really like the DMR, and in general it's serving me well. But to have rough edges languish for the better part of a year without getting some serious commitment by the manufacturer to resolve to is a situation that is way out of place for the DMR's price point.
