Digilux 2 sensor source?

Ron, the alignment might need close to rocket science unless the equipment in your basement is high-order.

Also, you get a CLA and a 1-yr warranty when Leica fixes it.

I understand that Pana is also replacing free of charge, but dunno if they CLA the camera at the same time.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy new sensors for the D2/DMC-LC1? it doesn't look like rocket science to DIY.

Absolutely! The camera comes apart quite easily and Panasonic sells them through their online parts site:

VEK0F72 / CCD PC BOARD / $414.29

but as you can see, it comes complete with and mounted to the circuit board and isn't inexpensive. I am not aware of any place that will supply you with just the sensor.

Hi Riley

That's what prompted my inquiry but it obviously it isn't financially viable as long as the makers replace it for free.

Can't be much to CLA in a box of electronics, especially the L bit:rolleyes: unless they take the lens to bits which seems a bit unneccessary if it's 4 years old or less.

Panasonic's support has been somewhat uneven, and there are reports of them charging in whole or in part for sensor failures. Leica,....different story. Disassembling the lens apart from removing the sensor and stack is unnecessary.

Ron--

The reason for the free replacement, as I understand, is that Sony shipped some bad sensors and is replacing them at no charge when they fail.

Maybe some types of failure aren't covered, though I don't know for sure.

Send the camera in for n/c repair and see what response you get. :)
