Since the original viewfinder still needs a few weeks to be available,

I bought a general 24mm Leica finder that fits very well.

For those of you who have the same idea, but wonder how it will fit,

I made a couple of shots.

Thanks for the pictures. I went to 2 seperate Leica dealers, and neither had any viewfinders to try out. After looking at your pixs, I feel that this viewfinder is too large for my particuliar use.

Does anyone know if the Voightlander models are any smaller? I like the mini-voightlander 28-35, and was wondering if anyone has one, and can tell how close it is to giving a rough idea of the picture area?

Thanks

@ CastenW

No I found one second hand for 200 euro,

so that was not so bad.

@ Brucek

Yes this finder prefebts the flash from popping up,

but since I have never used flash since the last 20 years,

I don't mind. If flash is your thing, be carefull when buying

a finder.

The other main reason for a finder is that you are looking at a life-sized image, not a 3 inch image, so you can see detail (e.g., faces) that you couldn't possibly see on an LCD. I'm surprised this isn't mentioned more...

I got one of those $30 Ebay finders (set comes with lenses, $24 plus shipping). It works, but since I already had a $140 VC finder for my M8, I'm just using that instead, of course I've already lost it once so it is now a really expensive finder (with the LX3/D-Lux4 I take it off when I'm just snapshooting so camera fits in pocket)....

the Soligor $30 finder is about 28mm edge to edge, you can set 28mm on the D-Lux4 exactly by doing 3 clicks (with pause in between) on the zoom lever. Or just use it ar 24 and have some room to crop. It has brightlines for 35 and 50, which do help in centering the view. Not a crystal-clear view like a Leica finder, but doesn't matter if you lose or scratch it....

Anyway, if anyone wants the Soligor I'll sell it for what I paid for it...email me.

Hmm - not so sure. I put a old Zeiss 21mm on and it is pretty accurate.

Biggest reason for a official Leica or Panasonic finder probably would be the ability to pop the flash. but somehow I don't think many will pop a flash at the same time as using a optical viewfinder, two different styles of photography.

Just to clear things up, the Leica 24mm finder wasn't made for this camera, but for use with the 24mm M-mount lens which has been out for a number of years. Since it was originally made for that purpose, well before the DL4 existed, it doesn't have 60mm frame lines. Not that Leica still shouldn't have made one for the DL4.

As for me, I've a 21mm Voigtlander on the way from Cameraquest.

And to clear things up further:

There was the older 24mm finder, now out of production.

Then came Maike Harberts' Universal Wideangle Finder, available and useful for 16mm, 18mm, 21mm, 24mm and 28mm focal lengths.

As of photokina 2008, Leica introduced two new 24mm finders, both of which resemble the older 24mm finder:

A less expensive one designed for the D-Lux 4 (18696);

and a new M-series 24mm finder with framelines for both full-frame and 4/3 crop bodies (12026 black and 12027 silver).
