This used to be the wildest area in the world and its quickly being "liquidated" by illegal and legal industrial logging. Thanks JRM We actually lived very close to the spot where this photo was taken for 5 years in the late1970s and early 80s and went back last year to look up old friends. You are right about the devastation of the rain forest - places 5,000 feet up in the Crocker Range are now noticeably hotter than they were 25 years ago because of the loss of tree cover. The same is happening in Sarawak, where we lived from 1991 to 1996, and even in Brunei, which is oil-rich and doesn't need to cut its forests.
