brucek Posted December 7, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2008 It is really up to you, your level of experience and what you want out of your pictures. Myself, I prefer to shoot in Aperture mode as I generally like to leave the lens as wide open as I can. I also shoot RAW (or RWL) plus JPG. I also have my camera set to Auto ISO with 800 being the upper limit.
maique Posted December 19, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 19, 2008 i've got C1 most of the time, configured to meet my likings: RAW, spot metering, AE lock only on the AF/AE button.. C2 is for specific JPG settings. one for dynamic black and white, another one for high contrast, vivid colored, shots.. i totally agree with brucek: it depends on what your level of ease with the camera and mostly about what you're trying to do with it. Richard D Posted December 19, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 19, 2008 I'm pretty new at this. But after shooting tons of images in the last few weeks, I'm most comfortable (for the time being) on RAW plus HQ jpeg, 16/9, Program mode, standard film, spot metering, AE lock, Auto-ISO with 400 limit. I also have learned to depend on the histogram and auto screen brightness. Ask me again next week, however........:-) I'm also now having fun with dynamic b&w and 400 ISO, really great for establishing mood.
nostatic Posted December 19, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 19, 2008 Mostly P and I adjust things as needed. I find that auto ISO is better than in the DLux3, so I often leave it there with a max of 1600. I don't mind the noise for the look I'm usually going after and often am indoors in low light and never use the flash. I sadly am shooting mostly jpg until Aperture supports the raw format, though I do switch if I'm taking something that I think is going to be especially "good." Beyond that, no NR and pretty much stock settings though I think I have contrast and sharpening bumped a bit. No funky modes and if I want b&w I'll do it in post. Usually spot meter and spot AF.
