Guest rubidium Posted July 5, 2006 Share #23 Posted July 5, 2006 Hmmm ... a very good price just for the lens. Seems like the deal got even sweeter with the pol filter included as well. I'd like to have one of those myself.

ptomsu Posted July 11, 2006 Share #26 Posted July 11, 2006 great shots! I use the 105-280/4 and this delivers same excellent results, especially with DMR
marcello Posted July 11, 2006 Share #27 Posted July 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Check mine currently for sale at Ebay; Ebay number is: 250006705921 The reason I sell is that I just bought the modular set up and need to fund this. My 280/4 has excellent image quality. If you check Fred Miranda forum you can find some test sessions made with this copy I uploaded. Compared to the 280/f2.8 modular at F4, the 280/4 is hard to distinguish. Both are razorsharp and outperform the resolution of the DMR. With the resolution limit it is hard to judge, but I think the 280/f4 can be the winner at double the resolution. I haven't don any tests for the corner sharpness, but I will not touch the 280/4 until Ebay auction end.
rgfenn Posted July 14, 2006 Share #28 Posted July 14, 2006 Hello Jim, I too had this lens at one time: you will love it. The sharpness, color, clarity and tonal graduation are wonderfull. I hope you are using film though, because the DMR does not have a hope in hell of capturing what this lens is able to produce: it is that good. I recently "went back to film" because my images using a canon D20 where convenient, had good clarity, good color, good contrast, and good sharpnes. But notice the overuse of the word good, not great or fantastic. I went so far as to test my lens in a controlled enviornment, using a Patterson test targets, which I have used in the past to determine the optimum aperature for any given lens. I has horrified to find that no matter which lens I used, Leica or Zeiss, the best I could get was 60 line pairs per millimeter, when I was used too 120 lpm or higher! You can notice this if you look closely at some of the forum members pictures made with the DMR and others with film. In summary the 280mm Apo telyt will out resolve most films and most certainly, the DMR or the Canon 1Ds Mark ll. I wish I had never sold mine I miss it that much.
