lars_bergquist Posted November 30, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dennis Laney writes (Leica Collector's Guide, 2nd ed.) that the 2nd version (5 element) 90mm Tele-Elmarit was not included in the sets of specially engraved lenses sold with the 1913-1983 Jubilee Leica M4-P. He adds however that one such lens with the proper engraving "Leica 1913-1983" exists. I presume that this lens is accounted for and that its whereabouts are known. Does anyone know if this information is correct? From experience, I do distrust compilatory sources like these, because not only is the information in them often incorrect, but it is also often uncritically repeated in one book after another. What e.g. does Mr. Lager say? The old man from the Age of Encyclopedias

jc_braconi Posted December 1, 2008 Share #5 Posted December 1, 2008 Lars, The books I trust in more are the triptych from James Lager. you know # I Cameras, # II Lens and # III Acessories. I know that are quite expensive and now a little bit hard to find.
lars_bergquist Posted December 3, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted December 3, 2008 I do know about Lager of course (bottled too) but I am a user, not a collector so I never made the investment. The old man born when Barnack died

lars_bergquist Posted December 14, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted December 14, 2008 Thanks a lot. That means that though not rare, it is curious! I bought my 1913-73 M4-P at an auction together with a 35 Summicron with the same engraving. If I ever sell the kit, I will not split it up.
