KeithT Posted July 11, 2009 Share #21 Posted July 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have recently purchased the LX-3 after much debate over whether to buy the D-Lux4 or not. There is a difference in the way both cameras handle jpegs but whether the difference was worth another few hundred £$€ was questionable. A little fiddling and experimenting in photoshop and I have managed to save 3 separate curves that almost replicate the look of the D-Lux4, with a final mild duotone finish that softens the harshness of the LX3 jpeg files. These are now saved and ready to apply to other b/w images I do with the LX3, and may even work with my 5d. I like the jpeg look of the Leica version, but couldn't justify the extra cost just to get it. As for the Silkypix software that comes with the LX3 I have tried it and hated it and found it didn't give me raw file conversions that were any better than fine jpeg files. In fact they were far noiser. I don't know how Capture 1 fairs with this for proprietary raw files, but probably a lot better. I use the LX3 for candids and fun shots, so fine jpegs are fine with this camera. You can see my effort here and I would be interested to know what you think, being experienced Leica users. http://www.flickr.com/photos/amazonsandimages/3706121785/sizes/o/ Regards...Keith

Porscheturboman Posted January 24, 2010 Share #23 Posted January 24, 2010 Hi Guys, I am new to this forum and I need a bit of advice. My wife and I are expecting a baby. I would love to own a Leica LX-4 to take lots of pictures when the baby arrives, but I am concerned about the shutter lag time. I had bad experiences before with point and shoot cameras with long shutter lag time when used to capture expressions of babies that are too fast for me. Can I expect a shorter lag time with the LX-4 or is it going to be more of the same. Can the performance of the LX-4 be compared to a DSLR camera? Thank you so much for helping me. Mister X Posted January 24, 2010 Share #24 Posted January 24, 2010 I find the burst mode fully capable of capturing the faces and moods of a precocious toddler. The HD video is a nice extra too.
