Advertisement Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Hi Guest guy_mancuso, Take a look here Leica lens for 5D?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pemayeux Posted October 13, 2006 Author Share #22 Posted October 13, 2006 This may be a dumb addition to this thread but I'll post it anyway. There is discussion about wanting to use the 5D with a Leica lens until the M8 is available. I sense a view that an M8 is an alternative to a (D)SLR. Surely, these are two entirely different beasts? Can anyone expect to replace the functionality of a (D)SLR with a (D)rangefinder camera? Wouldn't a DSLR user do better to consider a R8/9 with a DMR than consider 'upgrading' to the M8? I mean, the handling and even the usability of a DSLR versus a Rangefinder is a lot different, isn't it? Idle thoughts on my part but I'm confused about the expectations in this thread. LouisB Louis, I can't speak for everyone else but the only reason I bought a Canon DSLR was because I was completely dissatisfied with the D2. Ten years ago (I'm not a pro) I started using Nikon SLRs, then changed to Leica R4 after using my father in law's Leicaflex SL. Then I had chance to try a M6. I was in love. The rangefinder design is a natural for me. Then comes along the digital age. I bought a Digilux 1, and it was "ok" but it just felt kind of cheap. The Digilux 2 came about so I bought one. I actually liked the D1 better. Canon came out with a reasonably priced big sensor on a camera that I didn't have to look at the back to compose so I bought it. I've done some nice shots with it but it's like carrying around a bag of potting soil. If I wanted to tote something that big around, I'd carry my 4x5 field camera. The "L" glass is not too bad but I'd rather have Leica. For my shooting subject and style the rangefinder fits every bill, and to compliment my MP it's only natural to go to the M8 and share lenses. In all it's strictly a personal issue.
