hi,

i've just received a new Summilux 50mm ASPH (black version), and noticed some strange fabric threads(?) between the built-in hood and the ring it is connected to. could anyone kindly tell me if that is normal (as some kind of friction prevention) or just needs to be cleaned? otherwise i'll eventually go crazy looking at it ;)

any input appreciated!

Hi,

I have the same lens (except chrome) and it's about 2 months old. I just examined mine and could find nothing comparable to what you describe; in fact, I found nothing observable regarding the operation of the lens hood. Try calling Mark or Dave at Leica USA (201-995-0051x243). I've found them useful. Good luck!

Could you share a picture of these "fabrics"?

I checked my lens too and didn´t notice anything

strange on/beneath/between the hood.

Cheers, Zwicko

For anyone who's interested - I've received an answer from Leica USA:

The small fabric threads are from the black cloth material that we use for light traps.

This material is used on the hoods to make sure that no stray light slips through the hood, and to create a smooth surface for the hood to slide on (not metal on metal).

These threads do not effect the performance of the lens, if you want, you can send the lens into our service department to have the threads removed.

Mystery solved! Thank you, Leica.
