Is there any mechanical downside to doing this or am I fine?

doubice Posted November 27, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2008 I want to be able to use my M3 1/2 cocked as a form of shutter lock in certain shooting situations. Is there any mechanical downside to doing this or am I fine? I don't think that leaving the shutter half-cocked would have any detrimental effects on the mechanics of the M3. The shutter curtain leading metal edges would however stay in the middle of the film frame - could that not cause a light leak under very strong lighting? When the shutter is wound across the frame, those edges overlap - the curtains move across the film plane relatively fast, not leaving an oportunity for light to leak through. With the shutter half would and the slit stationary across the film frame,...... I don't know. To answer your question though, there is no mechanical downside to leaving the shutter half-cocked. Best, Jan
